My husband was released from INOVA after a 7 day stay for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting surgery. The cardiologist and surgeon offices had already prepared us to have at home, a blood pressure monitor, a pulse oxygen monitor, a thermometer, and a scale for weight. We were taking his vitals four times a day.
5 days after being home, I was contacted by Carolyn of Adventist HealthCare Home Health for an appointment between 1:30-2:30.
At 2:26, she texts "I am on my way. Eta is 3:20. Are you guys still available at this time".
She did arrive on time at 3:25. Came into the house and proceeded to just fill out paperwork while we watched her... Had my husband sign something and tell us what our co-pay would be.
She asked to see his chest incisions.
And then as she spoke as if she were wrapping up her visit, I mentally noted she was of no use to us. She did not take his vitals, did not assess his home surroundings; nothing but paperwork and billing.
It was at that time, I told her she did not need to come back. I was doing more than she had, so no need...
She was gone by 3:57.

Told my mother they were supposed to train her to be a nurse to do the work. Thats not what Medicare pays you for. You will be reported to authorities.

My mom had a major stroke and were just told about the inhome/outpatient therapy. Nothing was mentioned about getting a checkup, etc...Also, we had asked numerous of times to increase the inhome therapy for Neurology Center to contact Adventist home health and for the 5th time, it has been a whirl wind of confusion, no communication between them and Adventist. I am livid on how this has been a complete mess. Adventist home health keeps saying they did not receive anything. Yet Neurology Center said they did.

They said a nurse would call back yesterday to schedule an at-home assessment for the next day (today), but they never called back. Called today and they said they might be able to get someone out tomorrow. Obviously they are disorganized and not professional. Do not call if you need immediate assistance!

How can a nurse who takes an oath to do no harm turn a blind eye to an elderly man who is incapable of properly taking care of himself? A man going through radiation, losing weight rapidly, 84 years old a getting weaker by the day...please explain this to me. The patient is your responsibility while under your care. I guess money for a job you are NOT doing well is your reason. This situation is going to be reported to the proper authorities and the insurance company. When you are getting paid to look after a certain person you are supposed to do that NOT do what his manipulative, controlling mouthy daughters wants.
