John J. Buettgen Funeral Home

My mother passed unexpectedly and her body had been brought to Schmidt and Schulta where they tried charging us $4,000 for a basic cremation no services. We found this funeral home and were quoted well below that $4k cost and had the body brought to Buettgen. When we arrived they immediately showed us an itemized list of the cost and breakdown, in addition to giving us advice on how to proceed from here with closing bank accounts, handling any assets etc. They even informed us we may be eligible for the state to pay the funeral cost since my mother was on disability and a low income earner, whereas the other funeral home told us we have no options and we'd be forced to pay them nearly $4k. Buettgen picked up my mother's body within the hour I called and was charged a ridiculous $750 by Schmidt and Schulta. Buettgen was a life saver for us and I would absolutely recommend anyone in the area to bring their loved ones who've passed to this funeral home, they'll be treated with compassion and dignity all the way through the process.

Bad place I got kick out due to another family member starting something,didn't get see see my husband casket being closed,get gave other family member cards out of the card box that didn't belong to them,cut the funeral short a nother family member said they would pay them when they decided at last minute then wherent going to pay all of a sudden I get a call from them and this man screaming at me and telling me I was abandoned my husband all around bad place

When a friend worked for Buettgen, the funeral director was cheating on his wife/ mother of 4 kids. Apparently his marriage was based on her wealth which provided the $$ for him to purchase the funeral home.That was years ago. Granted this is hearsay, but cutting corners was real.Apprentices worked weekends unsupervised while this business owner was not on premises. Making home pickups, arrangements, and embalming are for licensed professionals, but he was "up north", too busy to train the help.The building looks great from the outside.Buettgen took his dog into the premises frequently. ick.

I'm surprised at the negative reviews on Buettgen. I've used their services and attended a number of funerals they prepared. Everything about each experience was fine.
