I moved back to this state after twenty years to have a three level back fusion, right ankle fusion and something done for my knee that requires my hand to lift it up far enough to get dressed, etc. I sold my business and my home in VA to return to the state where I raised my children, and they still reside. To have help after these surgeries. In VA I was used to seeing one PCP who wrote all my meds. Before arriving here I did call a Primary Care facility. I explained to them the meds that I was taking AND faxed them my medical records. They told me no problem. Upon arrival I was told that I was given the wrong information and their doctors no longer wrote pain med prescriptions. That I would have to seek a Pain Management clinic. I was directed to a "Speciality Clinic" for pain management that cost $1,000 for the initial meeting, that Cigna refused to pay, and $240 every month thereafter for one prescription. They completely changed my doctor orders and cut my prescription down to Hydrocodone from the Oxycodone I had been taking for close to a decade. And though I had two Orthopedic surgeons notes showing that Steroid shots cannot relieve pain from a Moved Vertrebrae bone cutting my Formina in half they asked if I would take a steroid shot. I was told about this small clinic by a Health Care provider. They are not corporate ran. I brought two years of medical records...that No one ever reads. I wasn't expecting answers that day or a new prescription. Today one is made to feel like a criminal for seeking pain management. I was looking for a qualified physician to read some of my records and tell me what they could do for me even if there was nothing they could do. Possibly steer me in a correct direction for patient advocacy. I was looking for professional advice. What I got was a doctor freaking out when I mentioned help with pain management. He couldn't get me out of there fast enough. He told me that "pain is pain", there is nothing I can do and no one, absolutely No One that I can write or seek advocacy. He said that I should go back to VA. I am 63 years old and I don't deserve this. I cannot recommend this clinic for "Pain Management" though WebMD stated that it was a service they provided. I did research them. I cannot say that their reaction is any different from the rest of healthcare here for CPP's. It was just one more experience of being assured that "pain is pain" and it is no longer in a physicians job description to give a damn. Welcome to Wisconsin
