I contracted with Annette Krautkramer of Caring Transitions of Central Wisconsin to assist me in liquidating a very large estate after the death of a relative. Her standard fee was to be $45 per hour of her time, which was to include on site help sorting, disposing, photographing and preparing items for an on-line auction her company utilizes, along with a final estate sale. Prior to signing the contract, she amended her hourly fee of $45 to a flat rate of $10,000 to do the entire cleanout. This fee included advertising. I received this in writing prior to signing the contract. Annette and her crew were on site for 12 days preparing for the auction and estate sale. She hired helpers from a temp agency to assist her. When I got the final statement, I realized she ended up billing me $45 per hour for the hours that her temporary help worked, for a total of $16,526.25 plus advertising of $422.70. These helpers were unskilled and had little to no experience in estate liquidation. In addition she charged me $325.33 in credit card processing fees, and $966.00 in 3rd Party Administrative Fees. These were not disclosed in her contract. I was charged a total of $18,240.28 to clean out the estate, instead of the $10,000 that she and I agreed to. She also did not disclose in her contract that she would receive a 15% Buyers Premium on the proceeds of the auction. This was an additional $2,300 of income. In addition, my husband and I put in over 200 hours helping her crew, supervising them and physically doing their work, without receiving any compensation. If it weren’t for us she would never have met the deadline for the auction and sale. We had already postponed the sale two weeks as she underestimated how long the project would take. Annette of Caring Transitions misrepresented her fees, she did not honor her contract, and her work was substandard. I would definitely not recommend her company.
