Quick Review: We purchased a mid-century home with an original wood floor. The floor was a major selling feature for us on the house but needed some work. I contacted MB Flooring because they were a Bona certified company. They were very communicative throughout the process from quote, work and fixes (see below). In the end we have a truly lovely floor that is a real show piece and will provide years and years of enjoyment. We’d highly recommend working with MB Flooring. The Whole Story: My husband and I recently purchased a new home, and wanted to refinish the floors. We wanted to maintain as much of the original patina as possible on the floor. That simple task has turned into a multi-week journey in the trusted hands of Josh and his crew at MB Flooring. Old homes have quirks, and this one was no different. The floor was in great shape for its age, and Josh determined we could go the route of a scuff and recoat. They are Bona Craftsmanship Certified (huge plus in my book), so they cleaned the existing surface and abraded it for a single coat layer. It dried beautifully, but we had used some ‘rough surface tape’ to hold down paper on the floor for some previous work which left obvious tape lines indents in the new finish. I called Josh back and he came out to look at the floor and he determined a second coat would help reduce this new homeowner’s mistake. We were so pleased with the second coat. It really brought life back to the home. When we moved the first piece of furniture in a week later, we didn’t notice the couch had chipped through the finish as it came through the door. Once I noticed it, I called Josh to explain what happened and he came out to look at the damage. We had followed all the guidelines to allow the finish to fully cure, and had even given extra time just to be sure. This was in vain though since the whole floor seemed to have the same issue with the finish just chipping or peeling right off the floor. He communicated with the Bona rep, kept us in formed and above all gave us our options on fixing the issue. They surmised that there may have been some sort of incompatibility with the previous finish or the product may have been frozen in transport. The logical next step was to sand the whole floor down to raw wood and start with a clean slate. This was a true show of workmanship of Josh and his crew. The floors were sanded, stained and sealed with 2 coats. We were more than impressed with the results, and happy to move in once they had cured. We had one last piece of renovation we had hired out, and during that the floor was damaged, not even a week after they were finished. Josh came back yet again to assess the damage and helped come up a solution. I could not be more pleased with the communication, workmanship, and general attitudes of these folks. House renovations often don’t go as planned and working with a business that is willing to work with homeowners to find solutions, has good communication, and fair prices makes all the difference. They have been great to work with and I would recommend them to anyone in need of flooring services.
