I absolutely love going to see Valerie! Not only is she very personable, so that we can keep a steady flow of informative conversation going, but she is also one of the best massage therapists that I have met! I have tried quite a few different massage therapists and many of them like to try direct pressure on the spots that are the tightest and most painful to work out. Direct pressure is only so effective for the seriously injured since it makes your muscles tighten up because they are feeling pain when you want them to relax. Ever since Valerie took some orthopedic massage classes, she has been able to get into those super tight places without causing as much pain, which in turn makes your muscles relax more fully and makes you recover faster. I have been seeing her for a car accident and I am now a firm believer in the healing power of massage for injuries and also for working out the tension that we build up in our bodies from stress. If we don't work out that stress that we carry around out of our bodies, it will continue to cause us pain and negatively effect our bodies. Of course if you are injured, massage alone will not always be enough to get you back to full health; there is more work to be done at home to help you continue healing such as stretching and vascular flushing (applying ice and heat and ice again to an injured area). Massage will provide immediate relief but in order to make it last, you have to do your homework. So your recovery rate is really up to you and how much effort you want to put into your health. Kristy is also an excellent massage therapist and works on the weekends.
