We hired Rhett Conner to complete a home addition on the back of our home. 6 months later he has pulled out of the job without a single thing started on the property. He accepted our down payment in March and in September he dropped us, leaving us with kitchen cabinets finished, a sink and tile purchased, all by us, but no structure to put any of it into. As the months went by and we started asking specific questions as to why we weren’t getting structural, engineered drawings yet for the addition Rhett became suddenly very defensive and totally changed his tone. He particularly aimed his condescending tone toward myself, the female partner of the couple, and accused me of doubting his character. In fact, I was trying to understand why he had us designing cabinets and other such things while we still had no progress made on the structure. Because of his bizarre order of things we are here in September with still no permits for the structure. When I asked for a defined timeline and expressed worry around the impending rainy and cold weather impacting a build at this point in the year, he again became overly agitated and defensive. He also sat at our table and rambled on about his conservative political beliefs for over an hour and a half, totally unprompted by us, which made us very uncomfortable. He conducted himself very unprofessionally and was condescending and misogynistic toward me multiple times. Particularly since he’s dropped the job and I have asked for monies back, he has gotten especially nasty, resorting to attacking me personally in emails, saying awful, immature things, telling me my measly $35k was nothing to him because he could get higher down payments any day. He continues to position himself as some sort of victim of being ethically questioned while we sit here with an unfinished (unstarted) project and money lost due to his wasting 6 months of our life and adding a ton of stress. RUN away from this guy. He is toxic, misogynistic, racist, and has an oversized ego that can’t handle a woman asking questions. So relieved he won’t be working around my young daughters! If I could have given him zero stars I would have.
