Dr Amy Canada is truly the only one who listened and cared during our pregnancy. We were seeing the midwives at St. Joes in Tacoma. It was a wildcard who I would actually see for a regular appointment. At 17 weeks, I unexpectedly started bleeding when I was out and about with my daughters. I went straight to the ER and my husband met me there. Others kind of pushed it aside because I was only 17 weeks but she didn’t. She helped us find out that I had a low lying placenta. When I was 35w 6d pregnant, I was at my 36w appointment on NYE. My blood pressure was off the charts and I explained to the midwife that I was itching terribly, to the point I was making myself mad. She sent me right away to L&D because of my blood pressure. Dr Canada was so caring and did all of the necessary research and tests to find out what was wrong and make sure our baby girl was ok! She gave us steroid shots to develop our babies lungs and we were to come back to L&D 24h later for the second dose due to the holiday because the clinic would be closed. She explained that our chart was thoroughly documents and that XYZ will be happening on Jan 1 and to be prepared to stay if the Cholestasis diagnosis is positive. When we arrived with the urine for preeclampsia testing, the 2nd steroid shot and other tests the on call kept sending us away and attempting to discharge. I had to ask for results for the bile acid test that was done the prior day and the doctor explained my levels were at 48 (should be 1-10). My husband proceeded to ask for what’s next and the midwife told us we could have a still birth but to go home and wait. That’s when we contacted Dr Canada off hours. The story continues but we have a perfectly healthy baby girl because of Doctor Canada. She was fighting for us and with us, helped get an induction and was one of the only ones who cared enough for us to help us have a safe delivery with a pregnancy related liver disease that is deadly for the infants beyond 36w. If we are ever going to add another baby to our family, we would make the drive to Puyallup to be seen and cared for by Dr Amy Canada

I can say confidently, I have never had a doctor make me feel so insecure & uncomfortable as she did. I regret not speaking up after my first visit with her, but I was so shy I didn't know how to go about reporting an unprofessional doctor. Amy Canada on my first new patient visit told me I had to pick one "problem" to address in that appointment, and anything else I wanted to be seen for would have to be during a different appointment. So immediately I felt like my health was not valued by her, and I felt extremely rushed. The worst part about my visit was when she was going through my medical history with me and she pointed out something about my medical history and completely shamed me for it & made a very snide comment. She embarrassed me and made me feel so uncomfortable. After that visit, I regrettably stuck with her because I was naive & too shy to speak up. (And it's hard enough to try to find a doctor). Fast forward to March 2020, I asked her if she would be able to write me a note to excuse me from work for two weeks because of COVID. My place of employment was offering 2 weeks paid leave for people who were at high risk, or lived with high risk Individuals, with a doctors note. I explained this to Dr. Amy Canada, and told her my parents, whom I live with are both very high risk, especially my mother who has lupus. She told me no with practically no explanation. After this encounter I knew it was time to find a new doctor. After reading other reviews on several websites I have learned I am not the only one who has had issues with Dr. Amy Canada. Many people, including myself have described her as unprofessional, condescending, and overall has a poor attitude. It's hard enough for some people to work up the courage to go to the doctor, so when you are met with one like Amy Canada, who seems to make many people uncomfortable with her unprofessional attitude- you find yourself not wanting to go back.
