A big shout out to Jessie with J.L. Scott. She was knowledgeable, kind and patient with us with so many questions..we are so excited to now be able to call our beach cabin " home" thank you Jessie for your wonderful help..You really made us feel like family...Gloria Dios!

BE CAREFUL BEFORE SIGNING! NOT A GOOD BRANCH. The owner (Thorn) of John L Scott Ocean Shore's reply to our review and his accusations against us (his previous client) is offensive, made up and in his own words "thoroughly nutty". The truth: Thorn "unconditionally" let us out of the contract on the CONDITION his agents get paid for their disservice when we sell our house. Thorn continuously threatens my wife and I with a lawsuit to have us remove our review using his John L. Scott attorneys stressing it will be very costly for us to defend. We are sharing our review and hope the Ocean Shores community sees how John L. Scott treated us as unsatisfied customers. (as you can see, he gives his own business a 5 star rating) Our Original Review: I wish we never found John L Scott in Ocean Shores to list our home. Be careful before signing! We've sold and bought many houses with different agencies but John L Scott is protective of their agents (regardless of unprofessional conduct) and can care less about the client. We signed the listing on Friday, found out their agents were not upfront during the signing / unprofessional throughout and requested to be released from the contract the following Monday (2 days after signing, not even on market, no MLS number). Thorn Ward is the John L Scott branch owner and would not unconditionally release us from the contract two days after signing. After the terrible experience, we tried to go back to an agent we trust but John L. Scott Ocean Shores refused to sign our cancellation paperwork until our new agent (who we have done business with several times in the past) agrees to pay a large referral fee to the John L. Scott agents who did us a disservice. DETAILS: Penny Pinching Services / Unethical Behavior 1.) told us minimum length of contract 6 months, asked to sign for minimum/less time but said not available 2.) No digital e-sign as requested/ all hand paperwork/ no choice 3.) agent takes unprofessional listing pictures herself for our 850k house, also drone operator complained agent trying to lowball his costs 4.) unprofessional throughout falsely saying they helped us prepare things for listing the house so they should get full commission when we tried to get out due to the poor service (all they did was briefly come over to take pics using what appeared in her hand as a cell phone, and only had the listing for two days when we tried to get out) Since John L Scott Ocean Shores refused to unconditionally release us from the listing, we had a choice of not selling our house until the contract expires in 6 months or if we chose to go with a new agent, John L. Scott refused to sign our cancellation paperwork until our new agent agreed to pay a large referral fee, basically like holding us and our agent hostage in order to release us from the contract to sell our home.

After more than 45 years in business, John L. Scott Ocean Shores has had more than 32,000 transactions, generally satisfying buyers and sellers of Ocean Shores property. Every once in awhile a customer comes along who is so over-the-top, you just have to decide not to work with them. Steve L is one of them. His claims are thoroughly nutty. We decided to unconditionally cancel our agreement with him and his wife, and send them to a broker who might be more successful in dealing with this very emotionally disturbed couple. Early on, Steve informed our agent that he wanted to sell quickly so he could get the money, take an out-of-area job and leave his wife. Later, during the preliminary listing process they asked our agents to conspire with them to cover up serious structural problems resulting in raw sewage accumulating under the home for many years. They were most emphatic that we must not inform a buyer. There were number of other signals that these were not people we wanted to deal with and we decided to end our listing relationship. After we cut him free of any obligation to our firm, he informed us that he would do all he could to “trash our reputation. Regards, Thorn Ward Owner
