I am writing this review with a heavy heart, having myself (as well as my wife and four of my children) been a patient of Peninsula Family Med center since 2005. I Have utilized PFMC for personal healthcare, work related injury, elective surgery and any other medical needs my family and I have had over the last nineteen years. That being said my recent experiences with them have been some of the worst I have ever encountered. Two weeks ago I was injured on the job. I obtained a claim number and authorization for treatment from the insurance company and called PFMC for an appointment. I was informed that last year they had instituted a new "Concierge Service Fee" of $500 a year or $50 a month to be a PFMC patient, and that I could not even book an appointment until I paid this fee. OK rising costs, inflation etc... I can work with you. I was then informed that I had not been in to see the doctor in several years and was now being considered a new patient (apparently having good health for a couple of years is now a punishable offense). Again, I can try to be understanding of current economic conditions and try to work with the present circumstances. So now I am told I need to wait for a response from them as to whether I can begin paying $50 a month to possibly be a patient, and further Dr Leverett , who is out of the office for several days, will need to approve of my continuing to be a patient as well. To make a long story a little bit longer, after at least a half a dozen phone calls, during each of which I was identified by my birth date and informed that I have "not been in for several years", I was told I would receive a call back letting me know whether I would be allowed to continue being a patient at a practice I have patronized for close to two decades. Bear in mind I am suffering, for almost two weeks, with a back injury from work, I finally receive a phone call informing me that Dr. Leverett has deemed me unworthy of patient-hood. The rude and off-putting treatment I have received From Mandy and the rest of the front office crew , makes me question whether the doctor was consulted at all, but if he was then, what a terrible way of treating a long time patient and associate. Not even a phone call to offer any sort of explanation. I guess its all about the money at PMFC these days.

Good doctors and nurse practitioners. Staff is fine. Never had the problems that others have had. Staff is very stable, no revolving door of practitioners like you get with the Franciscan and MultiCare clinics. I see my same NP every time. *Edit* I was a little confused initially about moving to a membership practice until I did a bit of reading. I'm reasonably certain that it was either that or sell the practice to Franciscan/MultiCare/other. I'll happily pay the membership fee if I can keep my same provider and see them the same week or even the same day.

The practice of charging a membership fee isn't new in the medical field but it is very rare. Generally, you well only see this in affluent areas as its the only place it works. It's meant to do two things, 1. Drive an influx of cash for the doctors who own the practice and 2. Gets rid of people who don't come often and spend money. It's basically a double dip to keep your business in the black. Make no mistake though, this is ONLY done as a cash grab. There is absolutely, make sure you hear this, ABSOLUTELY NO benefit to you, the patients. You won't have better service and other fees won't become cheaper. In this economy, it's a pretty sick and heartless thing to do but this is the American Medical Complex. Sad that they let greed win but I'm sure most people aren't surprised.
