I did not have a good experience with this counselor and cannot in good conscience recommend him to anyone. He did a number of things that I would consider to be professionally unethical and clinically irresponsible. Additionally, based on the black-and-white thinking he displays on his website about "bad" (selfish) people, my guess would be that he thinks these actions are justified. He seemed kind and helpful initially but said many things that in retrospect were quite demeaning and unkind. At times he acted personally offended by things I shared and treated me as if my feelings are irrelevant, shameful and devoid of truth; I cannot imagine a more damaging way for a therapist to behave. I hope that if he continues to practice therapy he gets some clinical supervision so that he can become aware of the blind spots causing him to act inappropriately towards clients, but in the meantime I would advise anyone considering this therapist to avoid the damage he could cause you and choose someone with healthier emotional thinking and more self-awareness.

Doug is an experienced therapist with great skills. He has made a tremendous and positive difference in our lives. I highly recommend him.
