image Horrible therapist. Avoid if you are a DV/IPV survivor. Felt traumatized by her extremely rude and glib attitude, and interrogation. She is not a trauma therapist by any means. Was annoyed that I have medicaid and clearly clueless about my diagnosis as I had to educate her about the new DSM-5 changes, never contacted me for our session, assumed I had FaceTime, and then ended the session early with zero grounding. Is FaceTime even HIPPA complaint? At 76, she should have her license taken away.

image I told her the reasons I came to therapy was to help my fianc & Is sobriety, and to gain some sober coping mechanisms. Doing the exact opposite, she told my fianc that it was fine to indulge in addictions as long as he wasnt doing any important thinking. In previous sessions she didnt say much at all and when we finally asked her if she was going to give us any feedback she said she didnt see any problems. Also we were not told until after multiple visits that our insurance wasnt covering what we expected and ended up paying hundreds of dollars more than we budgeted. Dont waste your time, money, or mental health with her.

image I started seeing Norma in January of 2017 for general feelings of being "stuck" and sadness/processing of a recent break-up. I have had many other therapists previously that were all helpful, but I have been in therapy most consistently/longest with her. I really like Norma's approach. She is oftentimes listening, and took her time in getting to know me without making any assumptions. I've found her to be very open-minded and supportive of my subjective thoughts and feelings, but she does frequently offer constructive suggestions, and/or help tease out feelings and thoughts to see where they are coming from in an organic way.
I can't speak to anyone else's experience of her, but she has been tremendously helpful to me in my quest to better understand myself and the reasons behind my thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. She's a very kind but also practical and realistic person. She knows when to push me to try harder or to dig deeper without making me feel unsafe or forced. She's both tremendously compassionate and very pragmatic. I've made a ton of progress with her personally and I'd definitely credit a good chunk of that to Norma's understanding of trauma/recovery, coping mechanisms, and family/relationship dynamics. I really appreciate her a lot and would recommend her specifically to anyone genuinely dedicated to self-work and self-reflection.
Update: still seeing her as of October of 2021 - so that's over three years. Norma is someone that doesn't want to just take your money and list to you vent without any concrete plan as to what actions you need to take next to make progress in addressing what is bothering you. She wants you to come with a real, honest willingness to share what you are struggling with- and only asks that you do the work she suggests in return for the effort she spends in listening to you. She has been doing this for a minute. I hope anyone that seeks her out for therapy appreciates that - and appreciates that she can (compassionately) see through any farce or front. Come prepared to do the work, and she will be your best ally and companion through any storm you have to weather.
