Forget about using this practice - it discriminates as policy. As evidence: I called this practice to request an intake for an adult son who has major depressive disorder - he needs medication management because he changed insurance provider and lost access to his previous provider. Unfortunately when I called Insight I mentioned that my son has autism spectrum disorder (AUD; btw, he graduated from a 4-year college). The receptionist informed me that this practice does not accept patients with AUD - at all. If I knew how to report this practice to the Office of Human Rights, I would do so.

If you could give a place a zero I would...DO NOT COME HERE...THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH! You are a number, you are money, you are nothing to these people!

I scheduled an online visit to discuss ADHD medication management. This was our first appointment together. I also have anxiety and depression, which I'm already on medication for. The meds work well for me. Dr. Spilner was extremely condescending and was not listening to what I was saying throughout the appointment. The purpose of the appointment was medication management for my ADHD. At one point, she asked about my suicidal thoughts. I do have thoughts, but they are passive, and I have a safety plan for if they become active. At the time of the appointment, I was in a safe place with family members around. I was not in any danger. I tried to explain all of this to her, but she did not listen. When I answered her questions about my suicidal thoughts, she told me I had to go to the hospital or she would send the police to my house! Are you serious?! It's difficult enough to talk to another person about my suicidal thoughts. I tried to tell her I was safe; my thoughts were passive, and I had a safety plan. She made me hand the phone to my boyfriend and told him I was a danger to myself. I felt extremely exposed; I was not okay with sharing these thoughts with him! She gave him an ultimatum: "Either you take her to the hospital or I call the cops." My boyfriend and I both knew I did not need hospitalization, so she sent the police to my house. The policemen were nice, but they were very annoyed and confused as to why she would send them. I was clearly safe. This experience has made it extremely difficult for me to find another place to get ADHD testing. Dr. Spiller's actions are a prime example of why people are afraid to tell anyone about their suicidal thoughts. I'm scared of sharing my thoughts out of fear of this happening again. She left me feeling vulnerable, frustrated, and hopeless. I would never recommend this place to anyone.
