My wife worked with the owner on a custom designed ring for me for our wedding. It was done to specifications and within budget and was exactly what we had hoped for; a very unique, well-made piece of custom jewelry that represented me/us. The owner worked with us in every facet of the design phase and we were delighted with the end result. I'd much rather see our money going to this local jeweler rather a puppy-mill jeweler with corporate headquarters out of state. We wanted a good value and product and Compass delivered beyond our expectations.

Jewelery repair: after careful look at the problem, the jeweler quoted one price (a high one), but on pickup charged 33% higher than quote. Could not provide a definite time frame for repair; said "umm...I'll call you." In fact, did, but I wonder how much longer it would have taken if I did not pop in to remind about pending repair after two weeks.
On pickup, I had no choice but to pay the inflated fee because I needed my piece of jewelry back, a bit of a hostage-like situation. Quality of repair: average, can see the welds without a magnifying glass.
I think I'll look elsewhere for my future repairs. I advise you to do the same.

We had a pretty bad experience with this place. The proprietor is quite friendly, but very absent-minded. Our order consisted of two parts, 1) a wedding ring for my now-wife, to be engraved, and 2) engraving and resizing of my inherited wedding ring.
It's hard to count how many things went wrong. 1) The order was quite late. Over a month later, getting close to our wedding date, my wife called and he quite simply seemed to have forgotten about the order. We then had to bug him again, a second time. We only got our rings four days before the wedding date even though we'd given the order to him two months prior and he assured us it would be done well in advance of our wedding date. 2) my ring was never engraved. 3) her ring was engraved with the text that was supposed to go on MY ring.
The owner didn't charge us for the engraving that was never done, but otherwise was not very apologetic for having our order so delayed.
Her ring was beautiful which is the only reason I'm giving this place two stars instead of one.
