James River Dog Training

We reached out to James River Dog Training a few months ago based on the recommendation of a friend. We had two, 4 month old rescue mutts that we needed some help with on basic obedience and behavioral training. Pat was amazing from day #1. He spent as much time teaching and training us as he did the dogs which made all the difference in the world. He was great with all family members, including teaching the kids how to work with the dogs. Now at 7 months, they are great on walks (with some corrections from time to time) and well behaved overall. We still have some work to do based on their young age, but Pat equipped us with the right tools. Another thing I really like is that Pat will still come back and help even after the "official" lessons are done if we ask him. Great experience and I would totally recommend if you're willing to be engaged in the training process.

Pat is the best! We adopted 2 adult dogs in February 2021 and quickly realized that they were difficult on the leash, under socialized and lacking basic training. After consults with multiple dog trainers, we reached out to James River Dog Training and they promptly scheduled a consultation. We really resonated with Pat's philosophy and approach towards dog training. Every training session and all homework assignments were extremely easy to manage and we have seen huge improvements in such a short amount of time. We never thought that in 4-5 weeks we would be walking loose leash with our dogs at a heeled position. We appreciated that at the end of the day he just wanted our dogs to be happy! Thank you for all your help!!

Pat is awesome!! He tells you exactly what to do and why it works. We have a very energetic puppy and he has gotten a lot better at listening after working with Pat. Very highly recommended company.

Overall we’ve been very pleased with Pat and James River Dog Training. We contacted them initially because we have an anxious 90lb 2 year old black lab and hound mix and a baby on the way this October. We also have a 6 year old dog who received training to help round out some of his prior training. Our dogs are now able to loose leash walk, sit/lay down and stay until released among other things. We weren’t given much help when it comes to integrating the dogs with our newborn which is why I didn’t give 5 stars since that was our original concern but they are definitely more obedient and we have the skills to continue their obedience between now and when baby arrives. I also like that we are able to call Pat down the road should anything arise.
