image Coastal Contracting installed windows and a door in our home that are now leaking and/or detaching from the home. As well, they painted the interior of our home, and the paint on our banister and doors is now peeling off. All of this has occurred in less than 8 months from the work being done. Coastal Contracting will respond and say we owe them money, however they have been paid in full. They refuse to fix any of their work while it continues to deteriorate and cause damage to our home. Pictures of the poor workmanship have been included in this review, along with a detailed outline of the series of events that have gotten us to this point.
Detailed outline of our poor experience
The project began in November 2020, and nearly a year later we have only had issues with all of the work that was completed.
Our basement door was improperly installed (pictures of the original installation included in review). After meeting with our project manager, Spencer, and the owner, Kwan, we were promised that the door would be properly re-installed. The door had to be "re-installed" multiple times before having to eventually be replaced with another new door due to extensive damage Coastal Contracting had caused to it.
After replacing four windows in our basement, we expressed concerns due to bowing. They were dismissed and we were assured once again that the work done was "above industry standard." Less than three months after having the windows installed, one window began to leak and the bowing on all windows has worsened (pictures included in review). Kwan sent our project manager Spencer out to assess the windows and he stated that the leaking window needed to be reinstalled. Kwan then had a representative from the window manufacturer, RJT Windows and Doors, come and assess all of the windows they had installed. The window rep confirmed that the leaking window needed to be re-installed and that the bowing on the remaining three windows indicated that they had been improperly installed. He told us that he would inform Coastal Contracting on how to correct the leaking window and the bowing in the other windows.
Coastal Contracting refuses to fix the wrongly installed windows claiming that there is a "balance" left on our account. The "balance" in question is for work that was not done. Coastal was made aware of the deduction (based off of a quote received from a second contractor) in the last payment made to them, and we asked that they call us to discuss if they felt that the amount deducted was incorrect. Two months passed and there was no communication regarding the deducted amount (and the final payment was cashed). It has only been brought up since we approached them regarding the issues with our windows and damage their work is causing to our home. We retained an attorney and were told that Coastal Contracting should not be paid the remaining balance as they did not complete the work.
Coastal Contracting has yet to remedy any of the issues and damages caused by the work that they performed. As a result, our basement continues to flood and one of the four installed windows is now detaching from our home. Services: Painting, General repairs & maintenance

image Coastal Contracting recently painted the interior and exterior of my home. Marlene was awesome and took the time to help me find the perfect colors. She responded quickly to my calls and emails. No stress, no headaches. Properly managed. Thank you for a job well done! Coastal is a pleasure to work with!

image Beware of dealing with Coastal Contracting and their owner, Kwan. There is what one would consider to be fair consumer transactions, and there are inflexible and unreasonable transactions We had Coastal Contracting evaluate a problem we were having with cabinets on a wall, which through settling, moved about a 1/2 inch off the wall. Their representative said he could fix it by inserting brackets to push the cabinets back into proper position. When I asked him how much that would be he said after checking with Kwan, $500. I assumed this would be a fairly complex procedure for that amount of money, and I said to go ahead and fix the problem. The man went to Loews, came back in 10 minutes, (Lowes is 2 minutes from my house), and then placed the brackets in the main cabinet which pulled it back but not quite flush to the wall. The whole procedure, including the trip to Lowes took about an hour. I was amazed at how simple this was, and asked the worker if he thought $500 was a reasonable amount for such a simple task. He said I’d have to talk to Kwan who is the owner. I spoke to Kwon the next day, saying that I thought that $500 was an unreasonable amount to charge a for such a simple procedure. (The worker explained the procedure, but not the brief amount of time involved). When I got Kwan on the phone the next day I told her that I had recently paid another contractor $588 for 4 men who took 3 hours fixing my garage entryway. She pretty much said, “tough luck, you agreed to pay $500.” She didn’t seem to grasp how outrageous her charge was, and although she had the opportunity to readjust the amount to a fair amount, she refused to do so. I therefore suggest to anyone who decides to hire Coastal Contracting, that they get a complete breakdown of exactly what needs to be done, and how long it will take to do the job. Do not pay way more than you need to!

image How do I start this review? I have never renovated anything any home. So I was a complete neophyte when it came to a kitchen renovation which was performed by the magical, wonderful, experienced and yes even cute staff at coastal contractors.
To do a kitchen renovation during a pandemic and ice storm and dogs running back-and-forth could not have been fun for the gentlemen and ladies that helped me turn my once 1960s kitchen into a beautiful 2021 kitchen.
The best recommendation that I can give is that there was no pushback. Having been in customer service forever I am used to the word no but that was never uttered by Kwan or Chuck or Carlos or Wilson or Robinson. I didn’t forget Cameron or Paige or Lesley or Justin. I think almost everybody in this company had a hand in this awesome renovation
There’s always going to be a workaround. There are always going to be issues but anytime there were; they were always addressed and address promptly. Anyone that has any questions about possibly doing business with this company please call me I’ll tell you the truth. Listen to the experts. They know what they’re doing. Services: Interior decorating, Painting, Floor fitting, Remodelling, Tile fitters
