I was in extreme pain and it was from a wisdom tooth. I already kinda' knew they wouldn't be able to pull it because it was impacted. However, after maybe 5 minutes of doing paperwork the nurse and doctor both took a very quick look at it. I wasn't even done with the paperwork when the nurse came back and told me August the third was the soonest an oral surgeon could see me. Of course this was in abingdon, where i had gone once before. So naturally I was then filled with anxiety and un-ease, because the pain that this tooth has been/is putting me through is at times absolutely debilitating. To the point where you can't drive a car or even formulate a sentence properly. So, I asked of they could possibly give me something for the severe pain because August the third is quite a while to have to wait. "No, we don't do that here" those exact words were told to me by the nurse. When in fact I knew differently, sure she can't (she wasn't a doctor) but I did talk to the doctor and he said he does it but very rarely. Which of course, i get that; I mean the FDA and DEA have scared doctors, physicians assistants and nurse practitioners so much that they simply refuse to even prescribe when they are needed. The whole purpose of going there was to get NOT only a referal, which was OVER a month away, but also to be able to get some relief from the horrendous pain that comes and goes every single day for the last 3 weeks. I have known the doctor for years and even told him when i first went to see him (sometime in 2014 or 2015) that I once was an addict but had been clean for almost 3 years, and to this day I still am by the grace of God. However, being honest doesn't do you any good apparently. I had a kidney stone in 2015 and it took 5 weeeks to pass. And during that time I was prescribed percocet 7.5 -3 times a day and/or as "needed for pain". And they did help, tremendously. I was responsible and some days of it wasn't hurting too bad i wouldn't even take one. Did I become a drug addict again?...nope. I flushed the left overs in the toilet actually. But now i wish i would have just kept them really. When someone is in extreme pain, and I'm not talking about a mere toothache here, i mean head-busting, drop to your knees and cry like a little baby type of pain. The pain is worse than a kidney stone at times, and I never thought i would say that but it is. I talked to them several times and pleaded my case, but they were insistent on NOT giving me anything for relief. I was only there for maybe 15 minutes and out of that 15 minutes 8 or 9 was trying to plead my case. What a shame, I used to like going to this particular place but I will NEVER go again. It was an absolute waste of time and money. I was left to suffer, and now i will be sent a bill for some BS more than likely. X-ray and they looked at the tooth for a few seconds....that's it. Oral surgeon referall over a month away, which they did find other places that could see me later in July, with their "consultation fee's" of course. It is just a shame, doctors do take an oath of ethics, and they should also have personal ethos to go along with that. Yes, a dentist IS a doctor, 100%...and now when you actually need something for crippling pain they WILL NOT help you. And yet I have seen people get hardcore pain killers left and right at some of these hospitals. I wouldn't recommend this place if it were the last place on earth....period!
