I’ve only been here once, and received one terrible haircut as a result. I asked for maybe half an inch to an inch off the top, but the barber rushed along as though she didn’t hear me and took off a whole inch and a half. Ended up with an uneven haircut that was way too short. Needless to say, I’m never going back.

I was a loyal customer of the Hair Cuttery in Dupont Circle in the District, where I regularly saw Kirby, a stylist who no longer works there. Upon moving to Arlington, I checked out the Courthouse location. Like some of the other folks in this review section, I have found that this location is hit and miss, but more than miss than hit. I went a total of three times and got one decent haircut, one bad haircut, and one very bad haircut. As a self-proclaimed cheapskate, I will now overpay for haircuts from anywhere else in town, since I ended up paying nearly $40 to fix the terrible haircut I received my last time here on top of the $25 I paid at this Hair Cuttery. To be fair, if you are coming here for a typical buzz cut or something simple, you may get away with a decent or good haircut. If you want anything even remotely sophisticated (e.g., a fade or layers), I would stay far, far away. The stylists are all very nice, but their niceness does not make up for the overall lack of expertise and consistently good results. I would pay out the you-know-what for a good haircut after my multiple bad experiences here.

I’ve been here twice. I’m not super picky or high maintenance; I’ve only received 3 bad haircuts in my life and 2 of them were from this place. The barber was rushing even though there were 4 employees at the store and only 2 customers (no line). She was in carelessly swinging the razor at my head and left a lot of uneven parts. I asked for a really simple short men’s haircut, and she managed to mess that up badly. Even though she was rushing, the simple haircut still took almost an hour because she kept walking over to talk to her friends for several minutes at a time.
