AWESOME BBQ. Live Jazz. We tried this place last night for Mom's B-day. We reserved a table for 30 well in advance. (Btw: reservations are highly recomended especially on a Friday or Saturday night. This place was very busy.) The band was great. The food, "very good" especially the BBQ which was moist, tender and full of flavor. As good as I've had (and I've tried bbq from all around the country). The food was a bit slow to the table, but considering the size of our party understandable. Prices seem a bit high until you figure in the Live music. I will definately be coming back...

Best BBQ I have had in Utah (Aside from my own). The food is amazing and the meat melts in your mouth. I usually get the three entree Ribs, Brisket, and Pork with a side of Hush Puppies and Fries. Everything is cooked to perfection. The only down side to "Soul & Bones BBQ" is that the place can't serve alcohol. But I guess that's a good thing for me becaue I would end up spending my entire paycheck at this place. The atmosphere is very "the usual's" kind of feeling. They treat you like friends that are there all the time. Definitely suggest this place and while you're there, check out the cheifs pants. Those things are always awesome!

After much prompting from friends to try Soul and Bones, unfortunately our experience was pretty lackluster. We waited 45 minutes for our food after ordering. My wife had her drink refilled once by the bus boy and my drink wasn't refilled till our check was brought out to us. By the time our food arrived, my brisket was cold, the "dirty rice" was flavorless and indistinguishable from plain white rice. Our waiter didn't inform us of any of the specials, which we learned about later during our meal as we overheard him telling them to another group who had just been seated. My wife didn't finish her hush puppies because they were so dry. To give credit where credit is due, the bowl of gumbo that ordered was good and I would order it again. I don't know if it was a bad night or what, as there wasn't a wait since we were seated immediately, but I honestly don't see us going back.

... but that ain't mean much. As a Southerner and a real barbecue man, I know a thing or two about cookin' meat. The sauce was excellent, though spicy, but the pork was, as it is everywhere in Utah, pretty average. I think the concept of smoking a hog has just skipped the Mountain West completely. It's not a difficult thing! Even we poor backwards Southerners figured it out just fine. Meat was fatty and obviously force fed - the ribs were massive and had that processed taste to them. Okra was good, as were the hushpuppies. Service was fine, the sweet tea was good but not great, and the constant Louis Armstrong was acceptable - I'm sure in Utah, Satchmo is as jazz/blues as you can go. Every other joint I've tried has frankly been terrible, so for those of you who are hungering for something, I'd go to Soul and Bones and enjoy the sauce.
