I hired Lynn H Jones on 4/2/20 to provide the service of filing my federal and state taxes, and send tax returns for some past years thru 2019 (the current tax year), as well as determine what taxes I owed and arrange a payment plan with the IRS for any back taxes. I paid him a retainer of $1,000. As of today 8/23/20, 5 weeks after the 7/15/20 tax deadline, he has not sent me any tax returns. I have demanded the 2019 tax return in email at least 7 times. I also called him multiple times but he doesn’t answer his phone, doesn’t have an outgoing greeting, and doesn’t supply a voicemail system for callers to leave a message. In the last communication I received from him 8/19/20, 5 weeks after the 2019 tax deadline, he admitted that he had not processed my 2019 tax return. He also volunteered the information that “a number of returns have not been completely processed including yours.” Finally I demanded my money back on 8/20/20. He ignored that too. Today I filed an Ethics Complaint against him to the National Association of Enrolled Agents. I also filed a complaint against him to the IRS. It's an ongoing ordeal. So sorry I ever crossed paths with this guy. -- 10/20/20: On edit after Lynn H Jones' reply-- 1-I only received tax documents from him after disputing the money I paid to him with my credit card company, and reporting him to the NAEA, IRS, BBB, and others. 2-Note the following timeline-- -April 2 I hired him to do my 2019 taxes. -July 15 was the deadline for filing 2020 taxes. -July 22 he emailed me an e-file acknowledgement but no 2019 tax return. -August 26 he emailed me 2019 tax returns including a letter informing me that I owe $1,400 in Utah taxes, and the payment was due on July 15, therefore I am incurring penalties and interest. At the point he finally sent me my 2019 tax returns, tax owed was already late. This was negligent of him; he should have had me pay the Utah tax I owed by the July 15 tax filing deadline so I would not incur penalties and interest. He also refused to pay the penalties and interest he was responsible for after being confronted with his negligence. 3-I "reached out on numerous occasions" to him because he made numerous errors once he finally supplied the late returns, so I had to spend weeks getting the errors corrected. Among his many errors: -Duplicate contradictory filing instructions for the same year and state: He sent one set of filing instructions that said I should get a $135 refund. He also sent a second set of filing instructions that said I owe $56. -Missing filing instructions for another year. -Misspelling multiple employer's names wrong on all documentation for three filing years. -Misspelling my street address wrong on all documentation. 4-And finally, I have not been "happily assisted." I went thru hell trying to get him to do the job he was paid to do, and spent weeks getting his errors corrected. Even now I don't know if the corrected documentation is actually correct. As I said to him in email September 8, 2020-- "I'm really taken aback by how sloppy these returns are. But since you refuse to refund my money in spite of all the problems I need to use what I can of what you sent. I don't have the money to hire someone else to do what I already paid you to do." And he has the gall to say I was "happily assisted" by him. I mean really Lynn H Jones-- HOW DARE YOU.
