I hired David because of his history in construction and home remodeling. His company was responsible for the new roof installation, foundation repair and leveling, new electrical, and new plumbing for my 1940s home. His warranty behind his work gave me the peace of mind to entrust him and his team to complete the tasks at hand. I recommend that you call David and entrust him with your construction needs. Sunrise did a complete renovation of our 60+ year old house including electrical, plumbing, siding, windows and insulating and renovation of the interior. As an Architect i designed the renovation, however David made several design contributions to the final project. We overcame several challenges during the project including pandemic related issues, the winter storm and labor shortages. We are very happy in our new home! This review will generally discuss the electrical rewire, and interior drywall patch and repaint job for a home remodel that David started in early June 2021. The entire project should have taken no more than about 12 weeks, but has taken over six months. As I write this review on 01/16/2022, the project is still not yet finished, and I was forced to fired David because he abandoned the project, and because of his dishonest practices, unfair dealings, very poor quality service, laziness, and general apathy towards finishing the project. Do yourself a favor, do not hire David Montelongo or Sunrise Restoration with any of your home remodeling needs. I will say that in the beginning, the project went relatively smooth. The demolition crew, the reframing crew, the plumbing crew, and the electricians all made good time with their work. However, I very quickly noticed that a lot of mistakes were made during every phase of the project. Framing had to be redone several times, and the electricians did not follow the electrical plan I provided, and had to redo portions of their work at least five or six times. David never caught these mistakes. I always was the one to point them out and ask for corrections. He very rarely takes notes or writes anything down, and he generally was not on site most of the time. For these reasons, he missed most of the mistakes, and failed to do a proper job as a general contractor. During the electrical rewire, I decided to have the interior of house repainted. We negotiated the terms and added it to the existing remodel contract. David quoted me $4,500 for drywall repair and an interior paint job in the entire house after the electrical work was completed. He received a quote from one of his subcontractors for about $3800. However, he decided to go with a different crew, that did an incredibly poor job. I assume he went with this lesser crew because he negotiated a lower price, to ensure he was putting as much money into his pocket as possible. I dont believe he cares about quality work, only making money for himself. At the end of the drywall and paint job, the drywall patches are very noticeable, and look like an amateur did them. This crew also used the wrong type of paint on the interior of the home. They put gloss paint on the walls of the house, which looks absolutely terrible. They got paint all over several fixtures, and even missed painting several areas of the house. David and I clearly agreed on a satin finish on the walls, and the exact areas that needed to be painted, so he knew exactly what type of paint we requested but still failed to stay on top of his painters. They ended up using the wrong paint, and missed areas of the house, which looks awful and is very noticeable. Initially, when I expressed my concern that the paint job didnt look correct, David assured me that he hand delivered the correct type of satin finish paint to the paint crew. However, after the original painter that quoted David came by and told me that the incorrect paint was initially used, David tried to pass the buck onto the bad paint crew and told me that, had he caught the mistake earlier, he would have told the paint crew to redo the job with the correct paint. So, he lied to me twice. He also agreed to redo the paint job, but then backed out of that obligation at the last minute, and told me that I needed to pay him the outstanding payment on the contract before he did any work to correct the faulty paint job. There are lots of pictures attached, you can very clearly see the poor drywall work, and the poor paint job. I regret using David and Sunrise Restoration. Montelongo has been exceptional to work with. Before hiring him, I had other contractors come out and give me eyeball bids without measuring etc. David took the time to discuss my options, measure and listen to everything I wanted. He was the only contractor to send me a bid, broken down with payment withdrawals and timelines of when the work was to be completed. He completely remodeled my kitchen in 2 weeks and has also remodeled a dining into a 4th bedroom, plus entire downstairs painted and more. He answers or returns calls immediately and shows up on site many times. Unlike most contractors, hes at his sites and closely connected to his clients and workers. Ive since referred him to other clients whom have hired him and their experience has been the same. I wont ever hire anyone else to do any work for me ever again. Top notch guy and business.
