Texas, which was once a Mexican territory, established the Republic of Texas through the Texas Declaration of Independence in 1836 during the Mexican War of Independence. The United States federal government recognized the Republic of Texas as a separate country in 1837. Despite striving for independence, the Republic of Texas faced economic challenges due to resource shortages and was annexed as the 28th state of the United States in 1845. After becoming the capital of Texas, Austin prospered, and you can see tall buildings overlooking the beautiful Colorado River in the photo. The (River) board rwalk shows me the beauty of the area.
