we haven't been to this place in 5 years. we first began going back around '80 or so. the wine writer for the San Antonio Express-News used to be a part owner. the food was incredible. wine selection was mind boggling. the grilled amberjack w/suspended butter was heavenly. then, bill stephens sold his interest and w/in 2 years we saw an amazing decline. the amberjack was clearly frozen and not fresh. they changed the legendary suspended butter recipe and began adding garlic to it. the wine list all but disappeared. the service became horrible and management was worse. the last time we went, we waited almost 2 hours for a table and saw 4 or 5 groups seated before we were. we complained and were insulted and called liars by the hostess when we told the manager how long we had waited. we have never been back and we will never go back. the place has become a tourist trap. for good food on the island, go to marcel's, shells, castaways or the pelican club. you still get fresh seafood, great drinks/beer and wonderful and friendly service. if you read the next 20 reviews, you will see that this place is clearly to be avoided at all cost! it should have closed over ten years ago.

We were the only people in the restaraunt. and it was decent food. Flounder was what we had. But the onion rings ware huge.

The food was fantastic, but highly overpriced and the service was very poor. I ordered the Shrimp Embrochette. I was expecting a lot of shrimp for $18.99, but there were only six small shrimp. It was fantastic, but I left very unsatisfied, since my wife and I shared this entree, thinking it would be a lot of food. Highly mistaken. The service was very poor. The waitress was rude and unavailable when needed. I will not be going back.
