        My doctor and nurse were both very nice and respectful during my visit for my gum procedure. Everything was thoroughly explained before we started and they continually checked in to make sure I wasn't feeling pain. About as pleasant as I could hope for a surgery to go.

        The periodontist at Parkside Dental agreed to call in a prescription for an oral sedative before dental surgery. I called three days ahead, then two and was given a run-around both times. Five hours before the appointment I got a call saying I had to agree to a $406 charge before he'd call it in. WHAT? NO WAY! The doc agreed to waive the fee "this one time" and told me there's a code, it's covered (I'm uninsured) and everyone is charging this. Not true! It is true that there is a code. This charge may be legal, but it does not seem ethical, especially not waiting until the last minute. IMO, that charge amounts to a bait and switch. No wonder healthcare costs are soaring. At the pharmacy, l learned that the prescription was not called in. During the intervening hour, the office had been closed with no notice to scheduled patients. Four days passed before they called to reschedule. By then I'd found a new periodontist.
