The history at this site is incredible. I learned that it is not and never was officially named the Middleton Tate Johnson "Plantation" Cemetery, but that in the middle 1900s, the section where Middleton Tate Johnson and his family members are buried was "carved out" of the Mill Creek Cemetery and that small section was re-named "The Middleton Tate Johnson FAMILY Cemetery." In addition, the entire site - now called the Arlington Heritage Memorial Grounds - includes the first and only cemetery where black families could purchase a plot to bury their loved ones in Arlington, TX in the 1920s to 1950s. That portion was called the Arlington Colored Cemetery originally. Our community is so diverse and there is so much we can learn by digging into our history.... the good, the bad and the ugly. It's important to know where we came from, the things we have changed and how we can keep getting better as a society.
