Let me first say I did not complete a mortgage loan with this company. However, after working with them for over a month to secure a loan that ultimately fell through 8 days prior to my closing date due to an issue that was never clearly explained to me, I can say with a clear conscience that I just can't recommend working with this company.
Everything started well enough, with CCB's mortgage broker explaining lots of things to me. As a first time home buyer, I was grateful to have someone answer my questions, and I liked the idea of being able to go down the road and talk to someone rather than deal with some big-bank faceless entity. However, as days and weeks past, communication with my broker got worse and worse.
I consistently felt I was being spoke to like a child by the mortgage broker, was frustrating or exhausting her, taking up too much of her time, or asking silly questions when I was trying to understand the process. Sometimes I got off the phone with her feeling scolded and belittled, but I pressed on figuring it would all be worth it when my husband and I got into the home we wanted with a good interest rate and loan option.
However, a few weeks prior to the planned close on our home, communication went silent. I couldn't get a hold of our broker by any means, and neither could our realtor. We just needed to know what the next step was, if anything else was needed, if we could go forward with the appraisal, if I should finalize insurance. We tried to get a straight answer out of her for weeks, until I finally called the office and left multiple messages with the CCB Mortgage leadership. At that point, 8 days before the planned closing of our home and one day before I was going out of town on a vacation, our mortgage broker finally called me into her office to tell me there had been a "glitch" in the final underwriting process, and that it wasn't our fault but we couldn't proceed. She couldn't explain the glitch and told me she'd been silent and avoided communication on purpose, under the direction of her manager, because she was hoping the issue would solve itself!
My experience with CCB Mortgage was exhausting and infuriating all along the way, but I pressed on because they offered me a good loan package. And then the process ended abruptly, shrouded in what felt like avoidance and secrecy.
I made this a 2 star review instead of a 1 star because when I was called into the broker's office at the end, she had gone through the trouble of finding me other loan options with different banks that could work for our finances and property choice, so at least we had somewhere else to go from there.
Maybe if you have no questions to ask and want to be led through the buying process with no explanation of charges or process, you won't have a problem with CCB Mortgage. Or maybe if you don't prefer communication, this will be for you. Or maybe it was a fluke entirely and my experience is not representative of the standard practice and interactions of this company, but I can only go based off what I experienced.
I wound up paying a full percentage of interest higher with the bank I bought my house through, and more than once I've said, "I'm willing to pay the extra money just to never have to deal with that last company again."
