image I used to work for this company as a Wheelchair driver. At the time I lived in Massachusetts and there was a specific base I needed to work out of, but they forced me to work out of a base in Rhode Island all for the purpose of paying me less. I made about 11.50/hr. This was back in 2016/2017.
During that time I was constantly working in Mass, but never being paid for working on Mass, and paying taxes to two states. They intentionally do this to many of their workers; rather than put them in a state where they have to pay more they'll just force you to work out of RI which has a lower minimum wage. So in the end the worker get's the short end, always.
In addition, any time I tried to report the horrid conditions my patients were left in I was told I couldn't because it would potentially lose us the contract. But at the same time I was told in all company propaganda that we care about our patients, so which is it? Do we care about our patients or our bottom line?
There was a Nursing Home in Swansea right around the Speedway McDonalds and Eskimo King- back on the main road past the old Gymnastics place and towards the old Mall -where I picked up a patient who was literally covered in feces because the nurses neglected them for hours before pickup and never let this person take a shower. I had to clean the patient and my truck and it was one of the worst experiences of my life.
In addition the fleet of Wheelchair Vans they have is woefully outdated and unsafe. Yes they had several new transit vans but the base I was forced to work out of only had ancient ford and chevy work vans that had been converted for passenger use with zero safety features. You also had to use your own GPS which meant I once again had to upgrade my phone plan to ensure I could find where I was going. We were promised Garmin devices in all trucks. This never happened.
I was threatened MULTIPLE times by dispatchers over the non-recorded line, but anytime I would respond or defend myself I was told in no uncertain terms that it was unacceptable. They treat their dispatchers who sit on their butts all day like royalty while the personnel in the field are treated like dogs.
They also never told me information I needed on patients when I was picking them up. So one time I had a patient loose their absolute mind on me and try to attack me, and dispatch didn't tell me it was because this patient needed their CNA around before they could be transported and they were- justifiably -scared that they were being kidnapped. I was struck in the face twice in this encounter and when I complained I was told it was my fault. Once again there was zero information on the file they sent me.
Lastly; the company never had it's workers backs in cases like the above. This wasn't the only time something like that happened to myself or my co workers. This company also owns and runs MedTech; meaning they are making an attempt to start an Oligopoly in the area to control prices and keep people paying these insane rates.
Don't pay for subpar service, and don't support a company that abuses it's workers and your loved ones.
