I called for a small arrangement of sunflowers and baby's breath given sunflowers mean a lot to my family and we include them in every arrangement. That being said, the lady on the phone told me it wouldn't work and it hurt her head that I wanted sunflowers and baby's breath. I proceeded to ask for her recommendation and asked the cost at which point she told me $35-45. I asked when she would be open tomorrow and she told me that she would need money down on the arrangement and I'd have to put in the order today. I explained I have class tomorrow and am calling around to see who would be open when I get out. She proceeded to tell me that people who want REAL florists call ahead and place their order. I nicely explained that in New York they make the arrangements in front of you where I go so that everything is fresh and done properly. She proceeded to tell me that I don't appreciate her work and the value and that if I want precut flowers I should go to giant. I told her that I buy better than giant and the places by me are different and that's okay. She told me she clearly wasn't the florist for me with an attitude and I hung up. Very unprofessional to deny what the customer wants when they are the one who is willing to pay whatever amount for exactly what they want and then to go as far as saying they should just go to the grocery store for flowers because their standards are not high enough and they don't appreciate "REAL florists." This lady went way too far instead of just saying "I am sorry, but we do not prepare arrangements in front of our customers and require time to put them together" or something to that extent.

Carol Shoppes donates 2 large rolls of ribbon every year for our township Memorial Day Parade and Service; they are made into 150 participation award banners. They also donate 4 wreaths for distribution to grave sites, doves to be released during the service, were the first to provide a float honoring veterans, the military and those who have died in the service of their country and many things I only find out about during each new year. Since they provide the same things year after year, I only contact Carol 2 months in advance. When our daughter got married she called Carol 6 months in advance. For a larger wedding we war part of, we called Carol 8 months in advance. I mention this because the reviewer Christine complained that she contacted Carol Shoppes 6 *weeks* before her wedding, from 90 miles away and was disappointed when Carol told her that she could not do the wedding. Though the order was small, Carol spends an inordinate amount of time (in my opinion) at the weddings that she does, regardless of size. The other reviewer, Christine, also complained that another (far larger) florist was cheaper, but if no final price was given I cannot see how she knew that. I'm glad Christine's wedding flowers were done to her satisfaction, but Carol Shoppes is a terrific small florist and I hate to see her maligned for something that was beyond her control. I've ordered huge centerpieces, birthday flowers, anniversary flowers, funeral bouquets, probably 100 items over the years and have always been delighted with how long the flowers last and how inexpensive the pieces were.
