Jen is an incredible vocal coach and human being! I have taken lessons with her for a year and have discovered so much I never knew about voice, singing, and even speaking. She is a patient and nurturing teacher who isn't afraid to "kick your butt" when you need it (but always with kindness!). She is also a huge asset to her community and works tirelessly through her Rainbow Angel Project to help bring food and basic necessities to families in need. Plus she has two delightful kitties who help her do the best work possible in relieving anxiety and releasing voices!

Where to start? Jen is a great music teacher. She knows her stuff. I have grown a ton musically during my time at sing and relax, which has been a little over 6 months now. I did not have the confidence to sing and relax, or rather learn and play music while being relaxed and immersed in the music I was playing. Ive never felt so happy carrying a song on guitar, bass, piano, and with my voice. I have come a long way. Im starting to believe I have something unique to offer musically. Jen is a people person. She is a good friend. She cares for her students. She is constantly changing and adapting with the world around her, and that carries over to her relationships with her students and I imagine, everyone else. Jen is a very positive person. She is helping me find myself creatively and takes whatever I throw at her in stride. Jen is a light and Im excited to be a part of her mission. She inspires me to be a bigger help to my community in the ways only I can.

My journey with Jen began early last spring when I wanted to dive into piano playing. Through our initial phone call, I hummed a note that Jen immediately noted was in relatively perfect pitch. From that point, she thought to implement singing into my piano lessons. Boy am I grateful she did - now all I want to do is sing! She truly "unleashed my heart" & brought upon a more confidence in not only my singing, but my attitude about life! Beyond that, through her teaching style, she's inspired me to incorporate more colors in many walks of life. Color association is a very basic concept that adults gloss over, yet we learn best when the teaching is simplified! Jen brings out the fun in coaching & allows us to embrace our own individual style! I have developed a strong relationship with Jen & encourage others who love to sing, but may have any anxieties/fears to consider this studio to begin their journey!

I joined Sing and Relax about three short months ago and it sincerely may be one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am a 20 year old dance student currently studying at a conservatory program. I initially reached out to Jen hoping to find my voice and create a new hobby. I also figured it would be fun to be able to show off during some friendly karaoke. I was hoping to find someone that could work with me in a calm and fun manner. My expectations were exceeded beyond belief. From the moment I met Jen, her presence has never been anything short of supportive, empowering, and devoted. Although she would never consider herself superior to others within the teaching industry, her intelligence and instinct is simply unparalleled. Her work is among the most influential educational courses that I have been apart of through out my 17 years of dance, 12 years of public school, and few years of college. As someone who knows no other life than that of a student, I am honored to be apart of her program. Not only does Jen recognize and accept the fluctuations in my anxieties and feelings with every session, but she miraculously finds ways gently shrink my insecurities and reveal new capabilities that I did not know I possessed. She matches my need for logical explanation, creativity, visual cues, and a calm environment to form the perfect concoction of education. She is so much more than just a vocal coach. Jen's teaching style is revolutionary. Her patience and willingness to grow along with her students leads us to mind-boggling and wondrous discoveries. With my life's worth of intense dance training as well as the many trials and tribulations that the world presents, I have developed a hypercritical spirit, most particularly critical with myself. My anxious tendencies mixed with my reproachful attitude have made for cloud insecurities to remain at the forefront of my character and create a shadow on my individuality. My sessions with Jen have been the beginning of my of a new start with my self image. In just three months, Jen has taught me the value of self-forgiveness, self-respect, self-confidence, and allowing others to view this beauty and wholeness that is within my core. Believe it or not she does this all through the grace of music. I acknowledge that this review may contain a lot of weighted statements as well as somewhat bold and intimidating words of "self discovery"; however, I would like it to be known that Jen and I do not complete our sessions debating and discussing the meaning of life as if we're Socrates and Plato. In actuality, our sessions are very lighthearted and we spend most of our time laughing and celebrating music. (No fooling around either, but Jen understands my need for humor and through humor that I am able to let go of my mistakes and LEARN) I remain genuinely excited throughout the week for our 60 minutes of music explorations and laughs. I feel that there may be many young women, dancers, conservatory students, or others like me who feel an immense burden to live up to expectations of themselves and others. It is a terrifying thing to venture into a new skill and new environment, but I employ you if there is any partner worth having to help you kick start your journey, it is Jen Vanella.
