I was a Student of GM Donald Drumm the school's owner & chief instructor in the 1990s & 2000s & briefly worked at this school at its old location. GM Drumm's unique Tang Soo Do program focuses on competent self defense without sacrificing the finer points of Traditional Tang Soo Do. Special attention is paid to self-defense, free sparring, one step sparring, etc. but, the finer points of hyungs (forms), basic Korean terminology, & instilling traditional values isn't lost.

**UPDATE* 3/2/22........As usual, 6:30 Zoom Class..... NO CLASS IN SESSION. BUT THEY CHARGE US. ****WE'RE DONE. Been here for years and it was good enough to stay. Look, Covid is a problem - I get it. BUT the Zoom classes? There's NO REAL teacher. They use black belt students - as teachers. One is great. The other guy- very nice person, and I'm sure great at Karate but we joke and call him "room service". He'll WAIT for "more people to show up". Then it'll be a 10 minute discussion on "what do you all feel we should do"? And then he'll say "this is a democracy, so I want to make sure to see what you want". My kid LAUGHS when this guy is the zoom teacher my kid says "oh we get to rest!". LIVE - the owner of the school does the exact....same.....thing......every week doesn't matter what rank or belt a kid is. Gotta see if there's Karate Schools - that have a SLIGHT clue on how to be a business and a class. Really it's a joke. WASTE MONEY to join this. Better yet, send your kids to the Ritz Carlton for spa treatments - it's not much different than the zoom class

My 23 year old daughter was leaving for FL for an internship that came through with little notice. Concerned for her physical safety, I wanted her to take a self defense course. I had made a few calls and spoke with Grandmaster Drumm. I explained our situation and he suggested my daughter and I come in for an initial consultation. There was an immediate connection for me and my daughter. I signed her up for private lessons for 5 weeks 2-3 lessons per week. Grandmaster Drumm has the ability to inspire and motivate. Within the short period of time my daughter was awarded an orange belt in Tang Soo Do. She practiced everyday and at the end of the 5 weeks broke 2 boards. My daughter acknowledged she did not take the lead in signing up for lessons but was very grateful that she had the opportunity to train with Grandmaster Drumm and stated that upon her return she would like to become his protégé. She considers him a mentor and a friend. It does not get much better than that.

Newtown Karate Academy is an incredible martial arts school. Master Drumm has both an amazing teaching approach and over arching communication skills set that allows him and his team to deeply connect with each and every student.
I have been studying the martial arts for over 18 years having achieved 3rd Dan in another Chinese discipline. My son and I started to taking classes with Master Drumm and have learned so much on our journey so far and we have only begun. My experience with Master Drumm is like no other.
If you are looking for an absolutely Incredible experience which will teach both martial arts technique and tradition, coupled with life lessons that will continue to serve kids and adults alike, you will not be disappointed with Newtown Karate Academy.
They will become your martial arts family. They are quite simply second to none.
