image We went here two nights in a row while staying at the Hampton Inn next door. Our first night here was a Friday night, we had a younger male server who was excellent, pleasant, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We had burgers and they were very good as well as the fries it came with. I noticed the restaurant had steak specials the next night and he told me it was a sirloin. I had noticed there was a filet on the menu, but only as either part of a combination meal or topped with crabmeat. I asked him if it would be possible to get the filet by itself and he said it would; they would just adjust the price of the one with crabmeat.
We came back the next night, expecting a pleasant meal like the previous night and we were sadly disappointed. After being seated and ordering water from our server, Cathy, my boyfriend realized he forgot his glasses and had to go back to the hotel to get them. In the meantime, Cathy brought back 2 waters in small juice glasses with very little ice. Of note, the prior evening we were served water in large glasses, as in every other restaurant I've been. I then inquired about the beer selections and she said, in an irritated tone, "there's quite a few, so I'll have to go get the list." She returned with the list, which was a small piece of laminated paper with the names of their wines, beers, etc., but had no descriptions or prices. Okay, so this isn't a place that caters to beer enthusiasts, I just ordered 2 Sam Adams (for some reason, I expected them to be in bottles but they were drafts, one of which had too much foam).
At that point, my boyfriend returned. He had no idea what had happened so far. He looked at the waters funny and asked if I had ordered shots! Our server returned and recited the specials then left us for a bit. She seemed to be rushing us as she soon returned for our order. We proceeded to order and I asked if I could get one of the steak dishes on the menu made with a filet instead of the flat iron steak; I was willing to pay the difference in price. She answered firmly "no" that she had just asked and you couldn't substitute one steak for another; my boyfriend reiterated we would pay the difference, but she wouldn't budge. I asked if I could get a filet as a meal and she just either 1. wasn't understanding my request or 2. just being lazy and/or stubborn and not nice. So I asked point blank, "so you're telling me there's no way I can get a filet by itself?" "No". I was so flustered that she wouldn't even ask! Both of my kids are in the restaurant industry and I know this is not how to treat a customer. I wound up ordering the sirloin steak special with red potatoes. The salad was okay. They steak was undercooked and covered with some sort of gravy, cheese and mushrooms. My red potatoes were boiled potatoes cut into quarters sprinkled with paprika and were barely warm. Even my steak wasn't really that hot; the meat had too much fat and gristle for my taste (which is why I like filets...). Our server kept sitting at a spot right behind my boyfriend and seemed to be rushing us even though we appeared to be her only table.
I will not return and I regret we tipped this woman at all. I'm really not a picky obnoxious customer, and this type of service is unacceptable. It's a shame because the restaurant is in a very interesting building and could probably thrive...
