UPMC ruins everything. Used to be a great place but since it has been bought by Big Brother things are not as happy as they once were. Hey! We have a service and if you dont like it theres the door, but the jokes on you because there is no other choice unless you want to drive out of the area for your surgery. They own all the doctors, all the centers and all your choices and often they are your third party payer. Sound like a monopoly? Sound like a conflict of interest?

I had a telemedicine appt and the provider was a no show - do I get $50 no show fee? About 2 hours AFTER my scheduled appointment I received an email from the office stating the "hope" someone let me know the provider was running late. The answer is no, I was not notified the provider was running late, the provider was a no show, period.

I started with them in October 2020 & we did telemed appts. Things went extremely well for quite some time and I lost appx 50 lbs and was maintaining it. I got VERY sick the 1st week of January 2023, was hospitalized for 21 days (5 in ICU) and almost died from the flu which had escalated into empyema & septic shock. After 3 months of monitoring and treatment, my Drs slowly began to reintroduce my meds including high BP, diabetes, asthma, etc. and I was given clearance to resume weight loss treatment. After almost 6 months the cardiologist and lung specialist cleared me and I no longer required follow up but I was regaining weight and decided to reintroduce my previous weight loss prescription in between my visit and shared this with my nutritionist. She encouraged me to discontinue the medication (which I did) and discuss it with the weight loss prescriber. The prescriber chose to send a message via the patient portal rather than picking up the phone to discuss with me and verify the accuracy of the conversation or if any changes took place since our last visit 3 months before. I requested that the prescriber call me to discuss details because her message was no longer accurate as far as her perception of my status of my illness. I had a pre-existing appointment scheduled with her a month after her letter and my request to call me. I attempted to sign on to the telemed appointment and it was gone without notice even though the patient portal verified it the day before. I called the office to find out what happened to my appointment and and a sundry of excuses were provided to me that didn't make sense including it was made for me in error. I requested again to speak to the prescriber of my medication and advise them that I was actually running out of the medication she had prescribed me (Trulicity). I also left a VM for the office manager. Two days later I got an express mail letter from the practice unsigned stating that I was discharged because I "demanded" medication that I was no longer able to take (Phentermine) and for "demanding" to speak to the provider who discharged me even though all of it was inaccurate and untrue. The prescriber nor the office manager would contact me on either occasion of letters or voice messages to discuss what happened in between my last visit even though I was simply trying to clarify all the corrections that needed to be made to my chart (not demanding) including being released from cardiac care caused by sepsis from the flu. I made both my PCP and the nutritionist aware of what happened and they were stunned! Ignoring patient calls and refusing to speak to the patient without hearing their side seems to be common behavior at this practice from my experience. It leaves no room for you to partner in your care or discuss your care with this practice or any changing needs. This was not the type of care, respect or professionalism that I expected to receive from a weight loss specialist or practice and was extremely dissappointed by the lack of professionalism and the lying that took place in theur letters to cover themselves! I wouldn't recommend this practice for these reasons!
