This showroom is a wonderful place to visit.The showroom displays a history of fine, high-end woodworking tools. It illustrates how the fine tool expedites and refines the woodworking task. It's also a reminder of how lack of the precisely correct tool impedes the task.
The showroom also reminds us of how social, personal and economic change affect the production process. Rosewood is now a protected wood so the handles are no longer made with rosewood and brass but of stainless or aluminum. The maker of the fine rope wrapping on the handles of the Japanese saws died in Japan so the handles are wrapped in rattan. Production costs are lower in China so that changes the economic model from production and inventory to jobbing and batch production. Off the shelf choices are limited.
The tools remain a wonderful alternative but you might have to wait. In the meantime, this is a wonderful place to visit.
