I direct a Preschool in the Portland area and want you to know that JT is an incredible photographer. We have had him come with his "Picture bus" for over 18 years now! He rarely has had to retake a picture, but if the families aren't satisfied, he has always been willing to retake their child's photo. As far as service, if a child missed picture day, he would schedule a private sitting for them at no charge. He even happened to be in the area with his bus one day and came to our school just to take one child and one teacher's pictures who weren't able to be there on picture day! I HIGHLY recommend JT Studios!

I see (naysayers) complaining about poor service, but Anne called me back the very next day and provided outstanding assistance to me. JT Michaelson has been doing photos for my daughter's school for 6 years now and I have always been very satisfied with their work.

The company's practices did not align with the school's COVID protocol. Students entered a small space where they would remove their masks and be in close proximity with the photography staff. When I walked by the mobile unit at school drop-off, I saw an employee within inches of an unmasked student's face, getting the hair out of their eyes. A simple adjustment would have been to take outdoor pictures this year, or even use the large auditorium and maintain social distancing. Safety protocol was not disclosed to parents prior to pictures being taken. Additionally, from past year's experience, prices are far too high for school photos. Low income families, families with multiple students, and blended families with several sets of grandparents and extended family members are unable to purchase a suitable package for a reasonable price. My family personally paid $40 for 4 5x7s (the ask from each of the 4 sets of grandparents) 8 wallets, and class picture for one student. When the school used Lifetouch, I received twice as many photos for $27. I want to support smaller businesses, but this disparity really creates an access gap. No financial aid was mentioned. 68% of our students come from low-income households, making this offering fairly tone-deaf and disheartening. Selection is very limited in terms of packages, and there are no options for different shots or backgrounds; only a very bright blue.
