This place is a Portland treasure! Tony and Julia are so knowledgeable about all kinds of typewriters, and showed me some truly magnificent, rare, and very old typewriters in extraordinary condition. They even let you type on any of them to get a feel for them. If you love learning about typewriters, seeing ones from other countries, and eras, this is THE place to look. The prices are also very reasonable.

My pre-teen had her heart set on a typewriter, and the owner at Type Space was spectacular. There were a lot of different machines to check out, and we could practice and use them all with no sense of hurry. The space is definitely being cultivated for a sense of community. When my kid finally picked one out, he took the time to really show her (and us) how to use all the basics of the machine, and made it clear that Type Space will help us out remotely or in person if something goes awry, or we just don't know how to do something. Bonus: Tony has a good rapport with kids. He didn't go too fast or slow in his explanations, and made sure that my daughter had the chance to try out each step so she would really learn for herself. There were some cool typewriter prints for purchase, and some accessories and the machines ranged from entry level to fancy. Some of the machines weren't in English, which could add a new dimension of fun. There were also some very old machines to check out and see how they worked. Tony's enthusiasm for typewriters added to our enjoyment, and much can be customized. Ribbon is available in a bunch of different colors, and if some part of the hardware breaks, he can make new ones from scratch. The typewriter is a huge hit in our house. We are getting little typewritten notes all over the place, for nearly any reason.

Tony was very helpful by contacting me when I posted on FB that I was looking for a missing keytop for my Olympia SG3. I ended up also buying from him new rubber feet for a Remington Rand Deluxe Model 5. All shipped to me in Canada. Great service and communications!

Warm, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Mark was really helpful in his knowledge of repair and the history of the typewriter. Very cool atmosphere, lots of typewriters for sale; vintage and "modern" Would definitely recommend.

Bought an expensive restored typewriter and had a 100% top notch experience from start to finish. Friendly, responsive, professional and even sent me something extra in my order which was a nice surprise. Top recommendation for those who want to buy, sell, or learn about antique typewriters
