Messenger Knife Grinding

Friendly helpful people. They helped me as needed. Price was fair. I think I misunderstood what they do but felt like they went out of their way to help with my quandary even if it wasn’t a typical task.

I brought my wood chipper knives here to be sharpened. I got them back looking like new, with an excellent edge. I also received a very good response over the phone to another inquiry about fabricating new blades for my bench-top jointer/planer.

I just got off the phone with this company. I asked if they sharpen sewing scissors (I use Ginghers, which are worth sharpening). The man I spoke with sounded tired, and asked if they're hair-cutting scissors, then went to check. As long as they're straight-edge, he said they can sharpen them, $5 per set, with a couple-day turn-around. I'm giving this 2 stars because, while he wasn't rude, whether or not they can sharpen sewing scissors is a basic question the people answering the phone should know. While this is tied with the lowest price I know of for sharpening scissors of the size I need sharpened (Sharpening4U out on Sandy is the other place), I will not be for Messenger. If I can't find anywhere closer to downtown, I'll just drive out to Sandy and get hour-turnaround service. I do get the feeling that this place is more interested in industrial jobs, but still, shouldn't the phone-answering people be able to answer a basic question without having to ask someone else?
