        Has nearly every Japanese food item I can think of, plus other east Asian ingredients. Located right down the block from the MAX station, I'm impressed. Prices are good, too. This is the only place I know of to get Szechuan peppercorns / prickly ash. Their meat prices are rather expensive, though.

        The oldest continually operating Japanese market in Portland, Anzen has a selection of everything you need for basic Japanese cooking in the American home. I love that it's been here since 1905, still in the same family. It's an important cultural resource for Portland!
