The Regional Arts & Culture Council has been one of the bright spots on the artistic and cultural landscape of Portland for many years. Thanks to their advocacy, the Arts for All program has afforded many in our community the opportunity to participate in all that our city has offer. Alas, how demoralizing in this time of heightened hardship and uncertainty that the Oregon Ballet Theater has chosen to adopt a discriminatory, disgraceful, and elitist policy of not making tickets available and enacting arbitrary limits for those who are less fortunate and lacking any semblance of disposable income. Patron Services Manager Mariah DeLude refused to make a ticket available for the last performance of Dracula even though over a dozen tickets at the lowest price point were still available less than an hour before curtain. One would assume that they, through the compassionate guidance of the Regional Arts & Culture Council and our city, would still elect to pride itself in maintaining a progressive ideology towards all individualsregardless of race, gender, economic status, and all other humanist affiliationsyet they have chosen to turn a blind eye and embrace this callous, exclusive policy that leaves so many in our community on the outside looking in. The Oregon Ballet Theater, Mariah DeLude, and the affiliated individuals who have decided to initiate this aloof, privileged policy have obviously decided to take on this insular, Trump-era approach in closing their doors on the most vulnerable and needy citizens of Portland. One has to assume the Mariah DeLude and her ilk take advice from the likes of Mike Nearman and Brian Boquist. Shame on you Mariah DeLude. Shame on you Oregon Ballet Theater. Shame on you.
