WARNING!!! Do not give this guy your precious books. After two and a half months and multiple phone calls I was fortunate to have my unfinished book found and returned. His reply as to why it wasn't done was "I am an alcoholic, I don't need this." The house and shop are in shambles. I have empathy for him and wish him well but DO NOT give this guy your business.

On April 10th I dropped off a small book in need of a binding repair. Paul quoted the project at $80 and estimated a 2 month completion date (due to his shop moving into his home garage). In early-July I called Paul to inquire about the progress of the project. He stated he would be getting around to it shortly. On September 20th I called Paul again to inquire about the progress of the project. At first he wasn't sure what project I was referring to. As soon as I began to push Paul to give me a definitive completion date, he became very short, stated I should "just come and pick up the book," and he was "not going to say another word." I reiterated to Paul that I still wanted him to proceed with the project, only that I just needed an explanation for the delays. He repeated "I'm not going to say another word" and he hung up. I attempted to pick up the book during my lunch break but was unable to - Book Crafts are not open from 12 pm - 2 pm Monday-Friday. I arrived to pick up the book at 3 pm. To his credit, Paul did still have possession of the book and it was, in fact, out on his work bench (albeit remaining not worked upon). Paul's ability to satisfactorily explain the sources of the delay were inadequate. These are direct quotes from Paul "I am lazy" "I took 2 months off" "[gesturing toward a shelf full of projects] look at all the other work I have" "I promised you a deadline and wasn't able to meet it, so I'm not going to promise you anything". Paul was unable to get around to working on the project for nearly 6 months. There was zero communication from Book Crafts regarding the delays. Due to my experiences, I highly Do Not Recommend entrusting your property with Book Crafts.

A couple of years ago (yeah, should have posted this earlier) I brought my mother’s falling-apart Bible to Book Crafts for rebinding. As a book, it was nothing particularly valuable - but the margins were filled with decades worth of my mother’s personal notes, so it was of tremendous value to her. We were delighted with the result! He matched the original cover perfectly, was able to avoid trimming notes written in the interior margins, delivered the finished product as agreed for a reasonable price. My mother was so grateful! Don’t be put off by the cluttered, upstairs office that you find when you visit. This is a craftsman in his workshop, not a salesman in a storefront. He does great work, and that’s what matters!
