I had the pleasure of renting my first apartment in Portland here, at the Topanga. The building is very well maintained, fairly quiet (other than the occasional box truck on busy Burnside), and the management is excellent. The rent is very reasonable for the area and my unit was beautifully renovated with a great view of downtown. Ultimately I decided to move east of the river due to work and parking issues. Permits are offered for the NW district but with my late hours it was challenging. I highly recommend this place and Drew the building manager is great. Thanks guys!

Love living here! Pros: Rent is affordable and has not increased since living here Property manager, Drew, is super nice and attentive. He clearly cares about maintaining the building and the well-being of his residents and goes out of his way to help people without being asked. Great location close to NW, Pearl, and downtown Interior of apartment is cute and has old-school charm and hardwood floors Amazing views and tons of natural light (at least from units on top floor, not sure about lower levels) Cons: Location comes with sketchy people: I’ve had my car broken into, and there are often crazy people yelling outside, sleeping in the entryway of the building, etc. No parking – street parking only, which can be troublesome to find in this area. I’ve also had multiple hit and runs because of tight parking. Has characteristics of an old building: no dishwasher, takes 15+ minutes for my shower to get warm, terrible water pressure, plumbing on my faucets is incorrect (hot is cold and vice versa) No pets allowed No sense of community in building

Me and my wife moved into Topanga apartments in December of 2012. We instantly fell in love with the old time charm this building has. It was a 420 square foot studio on the top floor viewing the west hills. We could get a view of the Envoy building and the beautiful sunsets on summer days. The old oak wood floor, the high ceilings with old wood moldings, the thick and sturdy walls that made is so you couldn't hear your neighbor, old glass pane window with counter weights. This apartment is a beauty. The kitchen was actually a great size with tons of space, enough to fit our kitchen hutch in and a mid size refrigerator. The Old tiles in the kitchen were beautiful but a little but of a pain to clean and the old wood cabinets had lost of space but the paint would chip every once and a while. I don't know where someone came up with roaches because in the 2 1/2 years living here, we probably seen only maybe a couple spiders Drew is an awesome landlord as well. Always nice and friendly and answers calls timely and seriously. The building itself is located on busy Burnside which you get the noise of the city and with timber games that includes bagpipes and drunken chanter which not being a football fan could get obnoxious but its all in good fun. Being right next to a steakhouse you would also get the smell of a succulent steak or a frying fish, the latter being quite foul but if the windows were closed it was all good. The location worked for us being college students because it was the best of both worlds. We had a mile and a half walk to school which took about 30 minutes to be on campus and we were close to grocery store and all the great restaurants and bars of NW Portland. The only downfall I would say is the street parking and car exhaust and cigarette smoke on the streets but that's most of Portland. I can say I will never forget this place. I absolutely loved living there. Our reason for moving was we were having a baby and needed more space for our little one to crawl and play. It also was getting to expensive for us to live there. Rent was steadily on the rise, so with a newborn on the way we need a new home. So we moved out July of 2015. I have to thank Drew for our time there. It was a magical time of our lives. Now on to our new adventure of parenthood
