image I like their food. It's nice to ride the bus there on mondays when the Sweet Home soup kitchen is closed. It gives me an extra day to eat and an opportunity to get out of town for a while.
However, I do feel a little annoyed when I eat there because as soon as I sit down the staff asks if they can take my tray. They want you to take your plate, bowl, cups, utensils, napkins off the tray and give the tray to them to wash. It just seemed so rude to bother somebody that just sat down. The first time I ate there I refused to let the staff take my tray. So then one by one 5 staff members took turns asking me if they can have my tray. You say 'no' to one, they send another. I don't know if I'm the only person annoyed by this. I started letting them have my tray but now they want everything else. Last time I went they asked me for my plate as soon as it was empty, my cup as soon as it was empty, my bowl as soon as it was empty then they finally came for my silverware. Why can't people just eat in peace? They don't do this at the soup kitchen in Sweet Home or Albany. I just don't think it's a good idea to do this in a room full of mentally ill people.
This kitchen has instant hand sanitizer in the food line. They have a table of free Bibles. They have another table of free clothes and food. There are 2 bathroom facilities. One is hidden.
I should tell you that this soup kitchen is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 4:30pm. It is inside a church called First Christians Disciples Of Christ located behind Ralston Park. There is a bus called the Linn Shuttle that can drop people off here.
