Absolutely absurd for anyone with disabilities! Used to come here on an annual trip with 'the girls' in the family. We would see a play or two in Ashland and then always leave a full day for a beautiful drive to Jacksonville and a day of eating great food and shopping. Streets were crowded and full of life! Wow what a change...now an amputee and wheelchair bound brought my husband for the first time back in 16 years on a Saturday. Not only were the streets dead the ONLY shop with wheelchair access was the Antique shop but the aisles were so crowded I couldn't get 5 feet into the shop. ALL the shops and restaurants with that one exception had stairs! There is also an upper priced option to eat a block away. It was 90 degrees and very smokey from wildfires so patio seating wasn't an option either. I couldn't even get into the bakery to get a coffee. So we drove around to what used to be a lovely very old cemetery with family plots from settlers and such. Another travesty! Completely over run with weeds and dry as a bone. Even the big old trees were dying. Such a shame! There was a plus a few blocks out of downtown and that was a German restaurant called Schoolhaus Brewhaus. Excellent mostly German food with a light atmosphere and good service... once again however the stall in the bathroom they called accessible was not. A low toilet with grab bars but in no way enough room for a wheelchair. PLEASE I implore you to stop using the 50 year grandfather clause cop out and do something! Anything would be an improvement! It's not just disappointing it's frustrating ,embarrassing and just plain wrong!. Thank you
