This is a five-star review about a professional error. We live far from Eugene but own a rental there, which makes contracting large projects feel somewhat risky. I like to meet the people I work with, and inspect things personally, but that is rarely practical with this house. Furthermore, the house is occupied by vulnerable tenants; keeping things comfortable is crucial! This was a somewhat complex project, as we were tearing out the old natural gas furnace ("it's dead, Jim") and replacing it with a modern heat pump. We were given a detailed quote for a heat pump installation at three price levels. Discussions with Craig, a principal at the company, resulted in agreement with his recommendation that the middle level was the "sweet spot" between cost and performance. The high-end unit is quite fancy. It reduces operating costs and makes temperature control more "invisible" with a variable speed compressor, but it's a LOT more expensive. We signed and returned their bid, and awaited installation day. That day, we didn't get a heat pump. Instead we got a phone call, informing us that the estimator who first crawled the attic had slightly mis-measured the available space. It was less than an inch of error, but would require re-framing the attic (very difficult in that small space) or tearing a hole in the roof to make the furnace unit fit -- and THEN reframing. I swallowed very hard. We were in a tight spot -- summer heat was already a problem, and the winter was coming on. Then Craig quietly said, "The variable-speed unit is smaller, and will fit the space." That's the costly one. VERY costly... And then he added, "The difference is on us. You won't pay for our mistake." The heat pump is in, and it's fantastic, but the real jewel of this episode is JCo. They were literally better than their word. I would do business with JCo again in a heartbeat. Services: Thermostat installation, Heating system repair, Heating system installation

Got estimates from six businesses to install a new ductless heat pump. All six showed up on time, showed courtesy and professionalism, and took time to answer my questions and give good advice. We gave the job to JCo because their bid was the best fit for us and at a good price. No regrets going with JCo. Here are a few things I liked: - Craig came to do the estimate and listened to us, educated us, and even traded some personal anecdotes. All with a sore back! - The install crew was top-notch. Showed up with smiles and got straight to work. Not only did they patiently smile through all my interruptions, they gave great advice, and went out of their way to accommodate us. They did several small extra services for us above and beyond and still completed the job well ahead of schedule. When the city inspector visited, he complimented their work. - The business office treated us like real people who were embarking on an expensive and unfamiliar project. We asked some tough and pointed questions, and Melissa answered them intelligently and thanked us for asking them. She always took our call and talked us through a turn-key job. Service: Ductless heating and AC services

Had a hvac maintenance check for two units because they had a special offer. Inspection seemed thorough, my units are 20 years old so he did say they have some wear and tear and might think about replacing one of the in the near future,(which I have contemplated), but no immediate concerns paid his fee and thought that was the end of it. Two days later get email with quote for repair that is priority one label which they define as unit is not working or needs immediate repair. Called office and said the technician did not say anything about a priority one issue and she states I don’t have one must be a mix up but these parts should be replaced as they are not in ideal shape. Bid lists what parts are being replaced but not the cost of them on bid, when I ask for details she states she does not know. How do you come up with price of bid, Magic? Called another company they immediately told me general estimate for cost of parts and said bid was high but could be within ballpark. Bottom line I will be replacing my hvac units and no way are they getting a bid.
