The person who I spoke with and came to look at the job was truly awesome

I hired Jacob Holzgrafe & Gage LLC for an interior remodel. Thankfully, the actual work itself was good, but the process as a whole was an ongoing struggle with unprofessional project management, communication issues, billing changes, and significant time delays. I would not recommend Gage LLC for a large project. He asked me to pay for supplies after cutting him a 50% down payment, halfway through the project he told me my signed contract was an "estimate" subject to change, but a construction attorney confirmed it was a fixed price contract. Jacob never wrote a single written change order, so I ended up making my own contract addendum for him to sign. Jacob's communication was often vague, so getting clear answers to questions was frequently difficult. He overlooked measurement & installation details that resulted in issues, which he ultimately fixed after I refused to pay more for it to be redone according to the specs on approved diagrams. Our contract included permits, but Jacob did not personally pull permits until the end of the project after a plumber walked off the job when he found un-permitted plumbing work which I then paid to have changed & permitted. Jacob gave a 10 week estimate and finished 7 months later. I waited to leave a review, but I recently saw Jacob has both BBB & CBB complaints from other clients which mirror my experience & were posted after we finished our project, so I was compelled to share my experience. I feel like Jacob got in over his head, underbid our project, dragged it out while he worked on other projects & didn't communicate well. EDITING TO ADD: In response to Heidi’s explanation, I’d like to clarify that our timeline was thankfully not impacted by Covid-19, and that explanation appears to be an excuse to avoid responsibility. Our project began Dec 16, 2019 and according to Jacob’s own 10 week estimated completion date we should have been completely finished before the end of February, which was when Oregon had its first case of Covid. Things didn’t really shut down until later in March. Our project did not start at the onset of the pandemic and should have been done before the pandemic impacted Oregon. Our pre-pandemic timing meant none of the materials that I ordered were impacted by supply chain issues: kitchen cabinets, countertops, kitchen appliances, flooring materials, light fixtures, plumbing fixtures etc…. every single thing that I ordered arrived on schedule, and often sat for months awaiting installation. Safety of staff & clients was mentioned in Heidi’s reply, so it’s worth noting that in my visits to the job site I only saw two sub-contractors with face coverings, and neither Jacob, Sam, nor Mike (the 3 job site leads) ever wore a face covering in my presence, even when I wore a mask on-site. Our permits were not impacted by Covid-19 - Jacob simply failed to pull them until the very end upon my insistence. The electrician & my plumber were both easily able to obtain permits without any delay. Likewise, I was able to easily communicate with the county permitting department who confirmed several times that Jacob had not applied for any permits on our project. Instead, Jacob assured me he got permits and when I asked which type, the gist of his reply was that he got whatever permits the county said were needed, but he didn't remember & would check when he got back to the office. When I originally wrote my review I was trying to be balanced and concise, but if Gage LLC is going to respond with false information then I will continue to reply as needed with more details about our poor experience. I have adjusted the star rating from 2 stars to 1 in light of the continued lack of accountability. Services: Drywall installation, Tile fitters, Installation, Roadworks, Flooring repair, General repairs, Interior decorating, Remodelling, Floor fitting, Water fixture installation
