Housing must not know about this law time to get a lawyer Yes. The Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in the terms, conditions, or privileges of the sale or rental of housing and in the provision of services or facilities of the housing. Discrimination includes a "refusal to make reasonable accommodations in rules, policies, practices, or services, when such accommodations may be necessary to afford such person equal opportunity to use and enjoy a dwelling," including public and common areas. Thus, if a tenant has a disability and needs a service animal to afford him or her "equal opportunity to use and enjoy a dwelling," then a landlord generally must grant permission, even if pets are restricted or prohibited in the apartment. Other federal laws may apply as well, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which requires any program receiving federal assistance to provide reasonable accommodations to persons with disabilities, such as public or subsidized housing, although not a landlord who only accepts Section 8 rental assistance. Regardless, the Fair Housing Act applies to virtually all forms of housing

DONT LIVE HERE I've lived here for over a year now and as I was waiting for my apartment to be finished (the one they promised me) 2 days after they told me which apartment I was getting they gave it to someone else, I had to call fair housing and report it. Then a month later they called and promised me another one. But since living here everything was fine until this October. I started getting threats of eviction for having company coming over. 2-3 people every other day. This time of year is tough for me and my friends come over for half an hour or so to check on me, make sure I'm ok. I was told to get proof of residency for 2 of my friends and my sister or I would be evicted even tho 1 of my friends is homeless and the other one we had a falling out and he refused to give me his proof of residency. Well needless to say I had to call fair housing and legal aid yet again. Then my wallet was stolen and I was 3 weeks late paying rent and got a notice on my door. I was finally able to get the money together and I paid my rent hours before receiving the notice. And now. My rent is due on the first and I'm almost 2 weeks later receiving the invoice along with the addressed envelope to mail out my rent money order which is sitting in my wallet. I'm a single mom, I don't drink, I don't do drugs, I stay home 95% of the time, I don't have a radio or TV and I'm not loud. Yet I get targeted, over several people I know here who do drugs and are always loud and have people living in their house who ain't on the lease. Now how is that fair?
