Love their meat !! Great place!!

I received a call from horst packing that my beef was done. It was a whole cow, 660 lb dressed. Didn't say anything other than my cow was done and that they were closed on the weekends. I asked what time they were open to today and she told me 5. So I have my mother (71 years old) go to pick it up, 45 minutes away while I'm at work. Btw, I am a butcher by trade with 25+ years of meat manager experience. Also I am a certified food safety manager. Mom picks up the meat and they load 660 pounds of unfrozen meat into a truck on a 75° day. So now I have 660 lbs of rotten meat from the almost hour drive home. I'm also contacting the USDA for unsafe food practices. Moving raw product in temperatures above 41° is unsafe and bacteria reproduces at an alarming rate. By the time the 45 minute trip was over, the product was ruined and I'm out 2k. Sorry horst, I was hoping you guys were a quality company. But in actuality you are just the best of a bunch of bad local packers. I'm thier reply, Horst will say that they are USDA inspected with an inspector on sight. What they won't tell you is that inspector only watches the harvesting of the animal, killing, skinning, removal of entrails. He does not supervise the cutting, wrapping, freezing of the animal. That part of the process weighs solely on Horst and their employees. I have to ask you if any of your employees are food safety certified? If so, that meat would have never left your facility. Also, there is a machine, called a blast freezer. Freezes meat in minutes. Maybe you should invest in one before you kill or sicken someone. I have one in my stores and assumed a packing plant would have modern technology. ***Update 6/2/2023*** So, the owner of this establishment reached out to the farmer, who happens to be my uncle, and told him that his shop is in Ohio and he doesn't have to follow Pennsylvania laws. Lol. What this man is totally oblivious to is the fact that the food code was developed by the USDA to establish a common food "law" across the entire United States. This law ensures quality and food safety throughout the entire country. This is not about Pa or Ohio law. It's federal. The more I hear from this owner the more I'm worried about a food borne illness outbreak. If you eat any of this company's product and get abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, sweats, chills, please call the center for disease control and your local department of health and report the illness. Unfortunately this company's ignorance is going to get someone very sick. Update: 7-11-23 Wow, so Rob now claims that everything that has been said is a lie. Even though he agreed with me when I first talked to him. He also claims to be contacting a lawyer while talking to my other half. Rob better look things up online because every statement I made is fact and easily searchable online, assuming he knows how to use a computer. It is now to the point where it's really sad. You have a business that not only doesn't back their product but also goes after the customer if they don't agree. I have a feeling Rob is trying to make up for some insecurities. Lol. He bullied a woman on the phone and ripped off an elderly couple, my parents whom were getting half of the cow. And all I've asked for is my money back for the cow they ruined and the slaughtering fee. That's it. If I was playing games I'd want way more than that. Great business ethics Rob. Way to stand behind your work! I have all 660lb of rotten meat in my freezers. Why don't you take it home and feed your family? Oh, that's right, you already said you wouldn't eat it. LolUpdate 7-31-23After ignoring the BBB for weeks they finally replied with a letter from his lawyer. I posted the letter. I have to wonder if he told this third party all of the details like it being 90° or the fact that one of his workers told mom to roll the bed cover up. Also, I find it hard to believe that a lab would offer an answer without inspection of the product. Where is the report from said third party? Come on Rob!!!!! Show your evidence!
