BB&T

I hate BB&T so bad. I log in first time ever online and all of a sudden I've been magically signed up for paperless statements. I didn't get my mail statement so they didn't get paid and I get a statement in the mail for my overdue account! I called up and the customer service rep knew immediately exactly what happened. Shady digital banking practices. And I had a late fee. This is the reason I don't have checking with BB&T and only keeping the credit card until I have enough rewards to redeem and then I AM DONE. Bye BB&T!

The corporate (especially credit card) aspect of BB&T is simply HORRIBLE and a SCAM. No one should deal with this bank unless they open perhaps only a checking account at a local branch. It all started when I opened a student account when I was in college. After a few years I saved nearly $25k, and at that point decided to get a credit card. Thinking that BB&T would be my best option due to my savings history I applied for one from them. They claimed the only thing I qualified for was a "secured card" with a $1,000 limit (meaning I had to open a separate account with them and deposit $1k - essentially borrow against myself). However, they claimed that after 6 or so months they would be able to lift the restriction and it would become a traditional credit card. After 12 months (perfect history) I go back to them and they claim that they can't do anything and that if I want a traditional credit card I have to open another one with them and run another credit check (with the inquiry harming my credit). Foolishly I agree. Well they come back and approve me for a traditional card but for only a $1,000 limit - despite me now having over $30k in savings with them in a money market account! But again they tell me not to worry as in 9 months they will review and increase my credit limit. Fast forward 2.5 years and they will still not increase my credit limit without running a credit check - despite me having a perfect credit history/score and having bought a house. To add insult to injury they have been charging me annual fees on the cards. I did not want to close them as it would hurt my credit history (partially based on longest duration of credit line), but just had them literally steal the reward points I had earned on the cards so I am finally cutting ties. And there are so many other shady things that they have done that I don't have the time to go into. Moral of the story: AVOID BB&T at all costs!
