REVIEW WRITTEN ON THE ALPHA HOME HEALTHCARE FACILITY My son is currently residing at a home health care facility owned and operated by the Alpha Home Healthcare Services in Raleigh, NC. I am an ACLU Activist and Advocate for the mentally ill and also the homeless in regards to housing discrimination. My son and I are also victims of housing discrimination as proven in a court of law. In my research of the Nigerian culture and experience with those of this culture that work in group homes and the like, I can say that they have harsh, loud speaking voices in communicating with the clients. The laws state that those who reside in these types of facilities are to be treated with dignity and respect. When this law is not honored and the resident does not have enjoyment in the housing, due to the loud, harsh and intimidating voices, it then becomes, ILLEGAL DISCRIMINATION IN VIOLATION OF THE FAIR HOUSING AMENDMENT ACT OF 1988 ("FHAA") THE NORTH CAROLINA FAIR HOUSING ACT ("NCFHA") and other laws. Stress and discomfort can make mental disabilities worst. My son has stated that he also does not feel safe in living in the Alpha Home Healthcare facility. For safety reasons for my son and all others in the facility, I have recently and currently requested a reasonable accommodation as required by the "FHAA" for the removal of my son from sharing a bedroom with a roommate at this Alpha Home Healthcare Facility ar Arrowwood Dr. in Raleigh, NC. Due to my conversation with the harsh speaking staff member, the room mate is a "favorite". Such room mate has a bullying, a bossy way towards my son, as reported. When a reasonable accommodation request is not honored, it is DISCRIMINATION UNDER THE "FHAA", the "NCFHA" and other laws. I witnessed a resident who was given his meds and dropped one on the floor. He then informed the harsh Nigerian speaking staff member that the pill had been dropped. Such staff member yelled in a LOUD, HARSH speaking voice "I TOLD YOU NOT TO DROP YOUR MEDS! MAYBE YOU DIDN'T DROP IT AND MAYBE IT IS JUST A FIGURE OF YOUR IMAGINATION!!" At that the resident said, "NO IT IS NOT A FIGURE OF MY IMAGINATION". I watched the resident look under the table and THERE THE PILL WAS. AT THAT THE STAFF ARGUED HARSHLY AT THE RESIDENT AND I WAS SITTING THERE WITNESSED IT ALL. When the staff member orders the mentally ill to do something it is not in a respectful, but in a LOUD, SCOLDING uncalled for manner. This is definitely NOT the first time that I witnessed the loud, harsh, intimidating ways of verbal communication towards the mentally ill client by Nigerian staff members. THE RESIDENTS IN THIS FACILITY ARE PAYING MOST OF THEIR MONEY OUT TO LIVE IN THIS PLACE. SOME ARE LEFT WITH ONLY 35.00 - 40.00. NOW WHY SHOULD THEY BE MISTREATED IN THESE WAYS, THESE DISCRIMINATORY WAYS? THIS IS NOT RIGHT AND IT IS ILLEGAL. AS AN ACTIVIST AND ADVOCATE FOR THE MENTALLY ILL, IT HAS TO STOP! I am totally against the Nigerian operated and owned facilities for the mentally ill. The harsh speaking voices and the dishonesty of these ones is unacceptable. I would not recommend anyone to place their loved one(s) in such Nigerian owned facilities for again, their voices create ILLEGAL DISCRIMINATION UNDER THE LAWS OF OUR COUNTRY.
