I just renewed my lease for the 3rd year. I love living here. Chris and the leasing office staff are wonderful as well as the maintenance staff. They make you feel like family not just a resident. When something goes wrong in my apartment it is always fixed and a follow up is done to make sure it's fixed right. And all the apartments are sprayed every month by the pest control company. If anyone is looking for an apartment please go talk to the leasing office. Highly recommend!

If you need to park in the side lot bc the visitor parking you know of is full. You have to know that the visitor parking is under a bunch of leaves (which makes it look like not parking spaces) or you will be towed.

I wish I could still recommend the property. I cant. What they did to my mother and I is wrong. They tried to take the majority of our deposits for damage that was no true. We believe it was in retaliation for us using the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to end our leases early. We were very good tenants. We put up with so much during the time living there and only asked to be treated fairly. When I moved in, my apartment had so many things wrong and more continued to develop. At first, the management was better and seemed to care. The new manager does not do what he says and seems fine with treating people unfairly. For instance, when I moved in there were so many problems that should have been fixed. I had two sinks that leaked, most electrical outlets were not working right, I had to request an exterminator, the washer did not work right and the front door was not working right. Cosmetically, there were also a lot of issues like the ceiling showing obvious repairs from water leaks and they tried to use popcorn paint on the walls and ceilings to try to hide just how bad it looked. The mailbox is in such poor repair that mail thefts occur as well but they wont replace it. This year alone, the living ceiling developed a huge crack that had to be repaired. In addition, their maintenance employee made a mess upstairs and flooded one of my bathrooms. It took days of large loud fans and repairs to get access again. There were no apologies for the damage and inconvenience. Even my simple request to at least have a fan with a light that worked well in the living room was ignored after promising they were replace it. My mother had it even worse when she moved into the apartment next to me. The buildings are 30 years old and they have not maintained them that well so she had a major leak in her living room that occurred every time it rained. It ruined her furniture and caused her a lot of inconvenience for many weeks until they finally got someone to fix the issue to the building. They refused to compensate her for her damaged furniture caused by their building. The refrigerator they gave her at first reeked of seafood spoilage and was noticeable as soon as you entered the apartment. Fortunately, the assistant manager was willing to help. He got maintenance to take it out but their usually policy is not to provide assistance for issues that they dont deem emergencies over the weekend. Her patio looked like it was full of green mold. They told her it was algae and said she would have to wait until spring for them to clean it when they did the buildings. It never happened. They dont have any security and the neighborhood has some issues. It was not unusual to have people wandering the complex knocking on doors late in the evening as well as on weekends. My mother was scared. There were also people in the parking lot using drugs. Others reported that packages were being stolen and they also saw drug use on the community boards and management never responded publicly. If you are looking for an apartment, look elsewhere. If you are already a resident, be careful. When you leave, make sure you take videos and photos and do the walk thru with them. They are accusing us of all kinds of damage. I believe this was aimed at us for leaving early with no financial penalty but I dont know that they wont do it to others. They have lost a lot of residents recently and have others that are struggling with the rent. Update: I took them to small claims court and won back all of my money. The magistrate agreed that they had no proof of any damages and even said their photos looked to have been edited. If they try to take your deposit unfairly, take them to court.

Update: Moving out I still owe them 600 something plus my deposit for carpet distruction. Ive added my images below. Just want to warn anyone with moving in! I was warned from neighbors that have left that they add extra charges when moving out. And I was also charged. Being a resident in this apartment complex for two years. I will not be renewing my lease. Larger model apartment . Very spacious and alot of windows for natural lighting. Office and Maintenance staff are great and very quick to work on work orders. Close to everything. But with that being said alot of trash flies into my porch and door. However , I have a parking lot right in front of my door. Im unable to park in that parking lot and have to walk across the building and park on the other side. I parked in the parking lot for two years until one morning I got towed. It makes no sense to have the one bedroom with the private entry and have to park on the other side of the building. Im a few weeks away from moving. I will edit this post after my move out.

The ceilings AND walls are "popcorn style": aka lumpy, weird, dust-collectors. Washer and Dryer are a average/nice sized. Cabinets are narrow and too short to fit cereal boxes. But there IS a pantry.. also too short to fit cereal boxes. Bedroom proportions are strange/small. Carefully Consider your bed size and position. Bathroom is just okay: there's a little counter space, a Medicine cabinet(!), and a small closet. The bathtub is a weird, cheap, plastic(?) with an odd spray-on sealant and the bathroom Vents never seemed to actually Vent. Popcorn walls plus moisture led to weird dustballs and streaks on bathroom walls. I'm not sure the exhaust/ vent Ever worked. Maintenance staff was hit-or-miss (example: the VERY overweight Hispanic Guy, and the VERY vision-impaired young white guy were pretty TERRIBLE at their jobs, while the slightly chubby white guy was capable and actually Tried to fix the problem(s)). The Office staff was almost the opposite: the "Regular" white guy manager (Chris) is really Creepy and often Lurking around the Residential Ladies' apartments, while the rest of the Supporting staff was mostly relatable, "Normal", and helpful. The WORST PARTS about the neighborhood are: Chris Dunseith who works in the Office (and his name will probably be edited out to spare HIS feelings), the Sweepstakes (and the nearby tobacco shop) across the street, the Food Lion/Mini City a few feet away, and the close-ish proximity to New Bern Avenue via free buses. ALL of these factors attract long-term/awful loiterers: Anything from: Chris sitting down and having a snack in front of the Dumpsters while watching your apartment, or the guy selling marijuana ON the Bus Stop bench. Maybe it's the dude begging for change (to play one more round of gambling), or the weirdo that follows you home -on foot- from the grocery store. Perhaps it's Chris "taking a phone call" right outside your bedroom window, OR the VERY Blonde junkie couple that Begs on the corners nearby to feed their drug habits. Basically, there are ZERO peaceful outside/ walking/environmental experiences to be had here. Carry a sensible weapon. Also, there's a very real sense that complaints About Staff will just be routed TO Staff or deleted/edited by Google. ( I'll update in future). Is there no recourse? Don't future residents deserve to know? Pluses: 7-eleven is VERY close, apartment is Close to Capital Boulevard, Mini City has had Less shootings lately.

Thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns. We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced with our visitor parking. We understand that the leaves may have made it difficult to identify the parking spaces, and we will be sure to keep that in mind moving forward. We appreciate your feedback and hope to improve your experience with us. -The Team at Oak City Apartments

We truly enjoyed your residency and believe you did as well, based off the glowing review you posted after you renewed your lease for an additional term and decided to move your mother to our community based on your positive experiences. Several of the issues noted in this review were successfully addressed during your residency, others you did not mention until after you moved out, and several of those items were not mentioned until you chose to post this edited review. We are sorry the move out process did not go as you expected. Unfortunately, damage to the home was found during the move-out inspections. Every course of action taken during the move out process was completely routine and had nothing to do with the circumstances of your residency or the reason for your move out. We have always relied on unbiased third party vendors and industry professionals to provide us with assessments of all perceived damages. Documentation has already been provided to you in the form of written estimates describing the damage and photos to support those assessments. Since the damage was caused during your residency you were held financially responsible, which is a standard practice for rental homes. As stated in our direct communications with you, we have attempted to discuss this with you and come to an amicable resolution. You have, thus far, simply attacked our business practices and the business practices of the vendors who provided assessments of the damage in your apartment. Should you wish to resume productive communication and move toward an amicable solution please contact us directly.
