Donna Downey

After 10 years of following various artists & their classes, I've winnowed it down to just a couple. Donna being one of them, and, I'm proud to say I support Donna as a Patron. Her endless generosity in sharing her time & talent is boundless. Donna meets each of us as simply another "fellow traveler". Each class always has so much more than just the 'advertised content'! Every question is graciously answered, often stopping to demonstrate, techniques fully explained and the "Inner Critic and Artistic Blocks" addressed and given direction regardless of what skill level her students may be. Growth, development and exploration are the basis her students, and her own work.

From the moment I saw Donna on a video I knew that she would help my art evolve. Little did I know just how much her teaching and friendship would mean to my life. In the last year I have travel to her art compound In North Carolina twice and to Seattle, Washington. I live in San Diego, California. Donna is a very talented artist and fabulous teacher. I’ve been following Donna online years, and have been a Patreon member for over a year. This is the first Zoom class I’ve taken with her, and I loved it! She makes people feel comfortable with the art experience and thus free to create. She shares so much of herself and her “tricks of the trade”, while helping us all to understand simple composition, value, contrast, and color theory. The atmosphere is informal, yet focused. Thank Donna, for helping me wake up out of the pandemic funk, and start painting again! I highly recommend taking a class.... and joining her on Patreon. She gives great discounts, too.

I recently took a live Zoom class with Donna Downey called Mixed-Media Abstracts. I loved it! I spent most of my time watching her paint...the class recording is available to watch later, which is perfect for me. I would rather watch the instructor first, then go back to paint along with later. But it is also perfect for those who would rather paint along during the class. She is generous about giving real-time feedback to the students who want it. She is so personable, and fun to listen to and watch. Great class, lots of fun, and very inspiring. :)
